Thread: Total Disatisfaction | Forums

Dear All,
I didn't mean to "flame" the authors of the software but i do take notice of the minimum & recommented specifications of machine required to run the game(s) prior to purchase.

Regarding the MX440 (ASUS 8170 DDR) - I have check with the original product documentation, the manufacturers web sites and they all claim that the card IS DirectX 8.1 compliant. I missed the bit where UBI said that it wasn't compliant - particularly on the product packaging - i will go an have a rummage for that article now so that I can fully understand your comments.
OTher than that - my comments about the software still hold true for ME - I have bought a lot of software from UBI and have always been delighted with my purchases. I found that UBI delivers goods as described on the box - well done UBI - it was for this reason I had no fear of prchasing Lock-On.
Like I have said previosly. Lock-On looks a fantastic simulator (I even got a new joy stick to play it!). I am (i think) justified in my sorrows until I get things back on stable setting - I will dumb down all the graphics settings to see if this makes a difference.
I appreciate all the (positive) critism and advice that everyone is offering - so please continue.
Cheers.

I agree the MX series video card are compliant with DX8.1 calls but not DX8.1 pixel shaders ever seen shiney transparent water on an MX didn't think so.

THe pixel shaders are part of the DX8.1 software though so they shouldn't ever say things like "runs all DX8.1 games" in the advertising.

Sorry if I am confusing people.

I got seriously pi$$ed off with this game too, but after installing the patch and reading up on how people have found solutions to some problems and performance issues, I'm finding it to be very nice and playable.

I understand you are frustrated as are many others that own that card. However, there is ZERO excuse for you to come on this public board and attempt to flame the product as you did.

The developers have worked hard to bring us this product and have come here in support of it almost daily. Your disrespectful comment "Unfortunately it is the most buggy peice of S**T i have ever seem released by UBI" shows a tremendous lack of forthought in its nature.

What sanctimonious rubbish. If the game doesn't run (for reasons that are not his "fault") he has every right to complain. From his perspective, how much more "buggy" can you get than a game that won't run without crashing on either of two machines?!

The developers may have "spoken", but it's the publishers who should have done - in large letters on the box.

It is very difficult trying to get your money back on software at PC World cos of all the no CD cracks on offer now. I took back Commanche 4 after realising it was a load of crap (arcade), and they would not give me a refund. I was gutted. This game has given most of us some sort of problem, but there are some great threads on this forum to fix it, and believe me it is worth it in the end.

Man thats something not right with Your system. Great stuff, but the TI 4200 stands out as a definite "I SUCK" component. Thats a real bottleneck!

I wouldnt waste time on the MX 440 card. Much as I enjoyed having this card on my PC last year, and although it would run Lock_on fairly well on my PC more recently, it wasnt till I upgraded to the Radeon-9600-pro, that the game really came alive for me. The point here is that LockOn is such a cutting-edge sim, that if you want to move on from your older flightsims and enjoy it to the max, then I reckon you'll need to upgrade to the 9600pro or higher, or the Nvidia equivalant, and then youll be flyin

Uuh, tinfish, i see that you too have that white sun... hmm
Why the heck is that anyway? I have that white sun as well....but in the demo of lomac, and the first time i installed full version of lomac, the sun looked the way it's supposed to look.

Did someone get all worked up about deadlines and release dates and force the public release of 'alpha' code?
I have tried the software on two machines.
A home made Giga-byte GA-8PENXP, Intel P4 3.2GHz (with HT), GB DDR, >500Gb disks, NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4200 (128Mb RAM) with AGP8X. The other machine is a Shuttle SS51G Barebones system with Intel P4 2.4GHz, 768Mb RAM, 120Gb Disk and NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (64Mb Ram). (PS: for licencing reasons I did uninstall first LoL).
Lock-On crashes the graphics (and game) - not just the planes - on both computers.

The operating systems are WinXP Pro with all the drivers, BIOS and patches that are availble to each system. This includes DirectX9 etc.

ALL other games work fine - these issues are limited to Lock-On.

This game is NOT fit for purpose and I would like my money back. I have the receipt (from PC World) dated 9th Jan 04.
Do i have grounds for taking it back?
Cheers

Windows XP eh??? WOW, I could run that on a 128 meg ram system with a 10 gig HD and a 2D video card. Lock On wouldn't run on that though.

it's a little more than a year old. the MX cards, even though they say Geforce 4, have Geforce 2 processors so that would make them several years old

Dear theratbag! i made LO go under two machines, one with GForce2 MX 400 and one with Geforce MX 440, Athlon XP 1500+ and 256 MB min on both! It did run, but with low settings! I strongly suggest you try very smoothly 'cos it demands a lot of hardware ressources!
