Thread: Way to load game w/ mod activated? | Forums

  1. #1
I am having a technical problem with Far Cry that indirectly keeps me from playing mods. Basically, I can only run Far Cry once after booting my computer. The second and all subsequent times I try to run Far Cry, it crashes out immediately after the splash screen. If I restart my computer, it works again (once). Because Far Cry has to restart when you choose a mod from the main menu, I never actually manage to get the mod loaded (Far Cry crashes, as always, when it restarts).

There must be a way to designate a mod to use from either the command line or a config file. Anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks!

Yeah, but it could be more realistic. When you die, the game should be deleted from your hard drive and your serial number permanently invalidated.

Yes , you can fix your desktop shortcut to look like this.(You "right click" your FarCry shortcut, then click on "properties".) There you will see the following.... "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -MOD:matto3 -devmode. Now where this has " Matto 3 " you just insert your Mod's name . There is a space between "FarCry.exe"_-Mod name . Understand ? Then hit "apply" to close the shortcut proerties. If you've done everything right , it will close. If any of it is incorrect , you will get a pop up message informing of the mistake. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I know how to modify shortcut command strings. I just didn't know the appropriate argument to use. I'll give it a shot.

You're welcome ! I actually had the same question a few years ago. I knew right where to look to make sure of the answer before I posted. It was great to help someone else with the same problem. Good luck !

Worked like a charm. This still doesn't solve the problem of only being able to load Far Cry once without restarting my computer, but at least I can get mods working now.

Hey...I just had an idea....could your problem be connected to a virtual memory setting ? Just for curiosity , I Googled "Virtual Memory causing game to crash PC". Give it a try and tell me if these problems are what you were experiencing. Let me know how this works out.....jwill58

Nope, it wasn't a virtual memory problem. I did eventually figure out why it was crashing on subsequent game loads. I had a virtual drive mounted via Daemon Tools and Far Cry didn't like it. I just unmounted the drive and now Far Cry works fine.
