Thread: Far Cry Server 2003 nVidia WHQL DirectX 9.0? mfc42.dll | Forums

  1. #1
I spent all day on this and found NO info on the web, from MS or UBI, nor any of my tech channels so:

After install SP1 as a workstation (because it has the 5.2 Kernel) I installed all my apps and they worked wonderfully (installed as seemlessly as XP, but run way faster), I experienced a hardware issue with my PNY nVidia FX5200 Ultra and the current version drivers 71.89 (or for that matter and through back to the last real WHQL drivers) and DirectX 9.0C (which comes with the installable WS2K3 SP1).....whew.......I did everything a man can and still I got a blue screen and an error message pointing to NV4_Disp.Dll once the load bar ended.

    The Fix:

Uninstall Far Cry Completely and Utterly :-)
    Uninstall All Nvidia (ALL)
    Install nVidia WHQL version 6.14.10.5303
Install Far Cry (DO NOT PATCH)
and here's one for yah - install the 9.0A DirectX redistributable from MS right over 9.0C - it changes just one file mfc42.dll and rolls it back to version 6.06.8063.0 Dated 3/25/2005 (funny has same date as the other file MS provided with the Sp1 setup - but that was a later version)

I can change way more vid settings in game, immediately launched in high mode and set up a new game using high tropical render, etc., and it runs great.

I think someone goofed - heck, i think alot of ppl have goofed...the FC patches are for compliance with the drivers but the drivers are aiming at meeting this games benchmark - gentlemen - pick up the phone maybe?

The prob is not just one issue, it is 4:
    DirectX - poor documentation
    UBI - guilty too
nVidia thinks one shoe fits ALL
    MS could care less

...find the right blend for your system...

OK, I must say that I am interested in what you are trying to say, but I cannot understand your point...

Are you saying that if you install DirectX9.0A and FC 1.1 you have better single player framerates and that you are running this game on all high settings with a FX5200?

I'm not sure this is possible. My 5200 runs this game at an average of 25 fps on 800x600 and most settings on LOW.

My point is that I have found several forums that show ppl who had issues with FC but no real answers....the answer is to tweak......
