for original IL2 dunno... 512 MB
    For IL2 Forgotten Battles, 512 + MB
1Gig seems to be about the sweet spot.

Myself, am running IL2FB with Aces expansion on windows XP in 512 MB. Its ok but I really want a bit more ram, and that's generally, not just for FB.

From testing with FB v1.21, 650-700mb RAM is spot on.

Your operating system will be a factor. WinXP will require more than 98.

not quite , but 256MB is a bit low for XP. Have just specced a PC for a friends mother, went for 1024MB Ram. She doesn't play FB (yet!) but I thought, given what she wants to do - Photo editing etc, bigger is definately better, so went with 1024 on a P4 3.4... 160Gig disk, DVD RAM 256 NVIDIA Gforce FX 5700.... <Sigh> specs I can only dream about but she was quite happy to pay the money so.... who am I to argue?

I believe 768 to be sufficient.
If yours is a new system and can spare a few backs it might be a good idea to go for an extra 512MB and end up with 1024 meg now to cover your future needs and save yourself a memory slot later.
