Thread: Far Cry 1 Remastered | Forums

  1. #1
    Hello Community.
Since Ubisoft owns the Far Cry IP I thought it would be a good idea to give console gamers the chance to enjoy the first Far Cry. I for one have not played the first Far Cry due to a very weak PC and would love to experience it on my PS3. If Ubisoft think this is too risky I suggest they should release it as a download-only title on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Games on Demand. Another suggestion would be to release a collector's edition of Far Cry 3 which contains a download code for Far Cry Remastered. Ubisoft could charge me anything they want I'd buy it.
    So what do you think?
I will lead you to GLORY

I played it when I bought my laptop as early as a couple of years ago (I also played Instincts on the original Xbox.) It was a great game, leagues above Far Cry 2, in my opinion. I wouldn't mind seeing it re-released at some point, however.

I mentioned this somewhere in an earlier post about a HD Remake on the 10th year after its release (which is still a few years off)

I am still unsure who actually owns the rights - I was under the impression that Crytek made the original one on PC but Ubisoft made the console version which still held the Crytek name on the box.

Now if they remade the console version and they added in the same maps but upgraded graphics I still think they would be fun to play.

The stoty mode would not interest me but that Editor - imagine the editor from FC2 but with the fast paced action from FC1 now that is a match made in heaven.

The vehicles handled better and were actually fun to drive, fast and handled jumps very well.

The quick pace and duel wielding of weapons - with the (wait on why am I going on and on - I want this now - just get me it)

fc2 is kinda fastpaste , and if they can't use cryteck why don't they use the dunia engine on farcry 1 , that would be better , fc1 with fc3's or fc2's graphics!

I think since crytek joined with electronic arts, they now have rights to FC1. But I am really not sure. Since they are buzy with the crysis franchise I doubt you will ever see a remake of the original on the cry3 engine or the dunia. I know the guy who was doing the remake of FC1 using the crysis assets to give it modern graphics cancelled the project because he said he was unable to continue using the crysis assets in FC1 because of something to do with the rights. I think he only did the first 3 maps and it looked nice. The name of the mod was delta sector, you can see a bunch of vids on youtube for it.

I actually liked FC2 more then the original myself. I thought FC2 was alot smoother and the big open world really made it what it was even with all the little flaws. FC1 is only 5 or 10 bucks on steam and I think I even saw it on the crytek site for free download a week ago. But if you are used to FC2 gameplay and smoothness, I think you will be dissapointed playing the original. It might have been awsome in its day but I think you would enjoy a more modern shooter more.

Ubisoft acquired all remaining IP rights to Far Cry back in March 2006.
    Press release

Think you may be confusing two mods.
Delta Sector by Platinum Gold was a total conversion mod for CryEngine1. Stand alone story, not a remake and won two MODDB Mod of the year awards.

Far Cry 2010 is a mod to update the original game, it originally intended to use Crysis assets but EA refused to give permission for their use.

It was discussed a few months back on this forum where the author Didjay popped on to give some clarifications.

    Hope that helps

I indeed was confusing the two mods. Thanks for setting me straight on this. I had everything backwards.
