Thanks for the responses so far. Keep 'em coming at the address below.
I'm posting this here because the MultiPlayer Match-up forum seems fairly deserted. Also, this SH3 forum has served as a great meeting place for the cross-section of helpful players who are devoted to (errr, obsessed with?) SH3 .
So, it appears that patch v1.3 will be out before the end of the month of May. I haven't yet tried MultiPlayer (MP), but I've built my skills up to a level where I feel confident to do so. (Only External Cam turned On.)
It seems to me that in the days just after patch v1.3 is released, it will be the opportune moment to try MP because every player will have the same version of the game on their machine. In addition, a lot of the existing kinks for MP play should be addressed and (hopefully) disappear with that patch. In theory there will be that neat moment of opportunity to establish MP with a like-minded community, all using a stable platform.
I'd like to make contact now with people who are in the same boat. (Well, who would like to be in a different boat actually.) If you are interested, just send me an email to the address below. I'm hoping to find people who:
(1) will use patch v1.3 only for at least a few weeks before modding it to death [nothing wrong with mods, we just want to minimize playability issues]
(2) have a fast internet connection
(3) plan to use manual TDC inputs
(4) willing to MP with manual targeting (I believe Weapons Officer is off by default in MP)
(5) are friendly, communicative and efficient (sounds like a job interview now, eh?)
That address is firefighter@graffiti.net . (Please note this is .NET) I only plan to use that method to communicate, but I'll coordinate a method for us to plan our stalking of the oceans. I'm thinking of an editable spreadsheet accessible via the Web, where a cadre of like-minded MP players can coordinate date/time meetings.
