Thread: Motherboard recommendation | Forums

Looking for a decent (but not too expensive) mobd with which to OC an AMD Athlon64 3000+ Venice. This is supposedly a decent overclocker.

I don't think that ASRock is stable enough for this.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

DFI probably makes the finest overclocking mobo on the market mainly because of its unreal bios tweaks and options. The DFI Nforce4 Ultra-D comes in PCI-E and AGP, although the AGP variant is hard to find at times. If you do have an AGP video card, the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is another awesome oc'er. I have had mine to 287MHz on the FSB (HTT) with room to go higher. Some review site had this mobo reaching 312MHz FSB (HTT). If you have a PCI-E video card, the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum has been voted by a couple of review sites as the best all around AMD mobo on the market, with its DFI counterpart coming in a close second only because the DFI doesn't have all the features or extras of the MSI board. Either one of these boards would be a great mobo for you. Of course there are others, many others. There's hardly any mobo released that you can't google and get all kinds of info on, of course, you knew that.

    Thanks Quazi...

That is the info I am looking for.

Yes, just what would we all do without Google! It just takes a ton of time to read lots of reviews and it is still possible to miss some good info if you don't happen to Google the right article.

Yeah, I've got an AGP card right now that's less than a year old so won't be upgrading that sucker for a while.

As it is, I'll have to get a sound card as I'll be parting company with Lord Soundstorm.

This is a very tough decision because I have not one, but 4 gaming rigs here (one for g/f, 1 for son here and 1 for son at his Mom's) so I am trying to also plan for future upgrades to those machines too. Which is why I really was eyeing at ASRock board.

But I think that both those boards you have mentioned are old enough to not be too expensive.

    Thank you again kind sir.
