    You fight the dahaka in the alternate ending. You get the alternate ending if you have all the nine life upgrades....
    If you miss upgrades you get the "normal" ending.

    In normal ending, you fight Empress and kill her. Then, Dahaka finds her, takes her body, and disappears (now he has nothing to do with you)
    In alternate ending, the fight lasts longer, and Dahaka finds her before her dead. You defend Empress from Dahaka, and you kill it with your water sword (Dahaka is afraid of water ).
