Thread: Something from heroes 3 I would like to see again | Forums

I think it would be good if Nival do this. And that is that no hero could go creaturesless around the map, and that you could not lead "heroless" creatures around the map. Just like in Heroes 3: no creatures without heroes, and no heroes without at least one creature. Plain and Simple

Could you get into detail why you think this?
I'm not disagreeing I'm just curious for the discussions sake.

I disagree, one thing I loved about HOMM IV is that you could move stacks of creatures without needing any hereos. Why would creatures need a hero to wander? Makes no sense. Also they're great to use for scouting and making blockades without having to have tons of heroes for this task.

I disagree as well, its one of the Heroes IV improvements that should make it to Heroes V .

I disagree too. No hero without creatures may be a necesity in their system, but at least let creatures go without heroes. I always found it ridiculous that you had to hire a hero, just to have one imp scout gather up loose resources. Or the whole transport chain thing, where you needed heroes to carry creatures faster than usual. No, this was by far better done in Heroes 4.

Too bad that it often lead to overpowered heroes, because the heroes-entering-combat system was a bit more realistic and convenient at some points. Imagine the following scenario:

The level 30 Barbarian, Crag Hack has to get to the frontlines, so he quickly travels through the woods with a single goblin as a companion. Ivor, the wimpy level 1 Ranger jumps from behind a tree with a single elf, as Crag Hack passes by.

    What happens in Heroes 3:
The elf is quicker than the goblin and the goblin gets shot. Mortally wounded, the little green creature falls to the ground. Crag Hack is so shaken by the whole ordeal that he forgets all about the war and his quest and goes to the tavern where he will be willing to offer his services to anyone who is willing to settle his bill.

    What should happen:
Crag Hack grabs his battleaxe and lets out a horrifying battle roar. He watches as Ivor and his lousy elf wet their pants, just before he reduces them to a gory paste. The goblin stands there gaping...

LOL! I agree. I can see the logic behind the argument that huge armies of creatures should have a definite leader (to prevent power struggles), but for a small band of creatures on the edge of the map scrounging for sulfur, I don’t think it should be necessary. I’d rather they used the H4 system without changes, or maybe put a limit on how big a band of scouts can be without needing a hero. But not altering it would be best, I think, otherwise there is still the issue of secondary heroes playing hot potato with reinforcements as was the case in H3. Size limits might work if there were Captains in towns like in H2, that could escort large armies until they reached a main army then automatically head back to their town afterwards. (Maybe with a distance limit of three days or so to represent his/her unwillingness to leave the town he/she is supposed to protect?)

    Yeah. Lets reintroduce chaining.
    Think not.
    ... 1 imp is not realy 1 imp ...

With (almost) everyone disagreeing, I realized that I liked Heroes 3 far to much.
