Thread: About Fraps | Forums

  1. #1
Just purchased Fraps and started recording some gameplay and I was recording for about 1 minute, it's saved in the Fraps folder but it's 1.8 GB just for over 1 minute.

It's set to play within Realplayer, why is it so big? Am I doing something wrong.

EDIT: I've tryed recording on 5 FRAPS but it's still over 500 MB. I recorded for 1:13 Seconds. I wanna upload a few minutes to YouTube atleast 7, but the file size is too big.

    Help required thanks.

    Please help, thanks.

I got to check mine when I get home but I think you can have your choice of AVI or Mpeg output... that or choose 30FPS instead of 60FPS that you may have right now.

You can always convert to avi and compressed it a bit w/o much loss of quality.

Thats normal. Fraps does not encode the video as it records to ensure descent frame rates. Otherwise you would be getting 1FPS because your CPU is trying to game and encode video at the same time.

You need to use programs like Virtualdub to shrink the video later on.

Also you can choose to record "Full Size" or "Half Size"

Download the xvid codec. In VDub open the file you want to compress. Goto the "Video" tab and select "compression" select the Xvid codec and hit "Ok." Goto File and select "Save as AVI"

That should bring it down. My knowledge of video encoding is very basic.

Fraps is decent, all tough personally I prefer GameCam, A little harder to use, but comes with more options.

I know a guy who shrunk a 190 mb file down to 33 mbs using DVD Shrink 3.2 and Divx.
