Thread: Is it wrong? | Forums

  1. #1
After sinking a lone ship I'll normally surface and take off in which ever direction I was originally headed. However, often I just can't seem to resist taking a few shots at the life rafts with the deck gun...

Anyone else have this "problem"? I know I shouldn't, but it just seems like it's a waste of a good practice opportunity.

They are our enemy and any one of them that survives your attack could come back and bite you in the stern. Who's to say that one of the survivors wouldn't level a rifle and pop a guy on your bridge crew? I have no problem whatsoever in wasting lifeboats and rafts. Does this make us a heinous murderer? Not really. After all, it is a war that we are simulating here. The strike force that hit Pearl Harbor on a Sunday morning had no qualms about what they were doing. They knew that hitting the port on a sleepy Sunday morning would be ideal, in that there would be little resistance. Not much different from sinking a few life boats.

When you deck gun the next life raft, just say;"They're coming right for us!"

You could ask yourself, What would I do if I was in the soup for real and fighting for the lives of myself and my crew?
I would most likely create alot of widows.

Hey, somebody has to feed the sharks. I mean, they gotta eat too. Right?

This is one topic (shooting of lifeboats in a video game) that usually ends with moralistic arguments, At least on another forum i know of, it's kind of silly. I could mount the 50 cal on the conning tower (along with the exiting two AA guns), and have it useable, but i was always afraid of the moral crusaders proclaiming that i was condoning the machine gunning of lifeboats. So i dropped the idea. (that and it was alot of work). Alot of people take this topic fairly seriously, and while in real life i can understand why, in a video game i cannot.

I agree but, I chalk it up to the realism that Silent Hunter 4 presents. So, if and when they do speak up, I acquiesce.

haha someone is a south park fan lol

As Ducimus said it is just a game. However, I don't waste my ammo unless its a troop ship i just sent under like a conte verde liner(huge european liner for stock players) and there are many full life rafts floating around, then I follow what Mush Morton was thinking off New Guinea, they reach land, theyll fall back into the ranks and kill Allied troops on land and that would be helping the enemy.

I would love a .50 cal on the deck if you could order it into place when needed, would be silly if it mounts every time you surface.

Something I can't understand why devs didnt put in the game, should be able to order your AA gun to attack surface targets...would be nice if doing battle surface to order all guns to open fire.40 MM's work nice on surface targets.
