Hey. I am a game designer/3D modeler currently attending college. I've worked on a couple games so far as well as mods, so I know how they work etc.
I have a lot of interest in FC2 because of its wild setting, having been to Africa in Kenya and Tanzania (planning a return trip) and I absolutely fell in love with it.
I am curious to ask if anyone would be excited or interested in playing a game in which you are not a human but instead the animals which roam the landscape. This includes all animals of the savannah. The mod could be oriented to predators vs predators (killing herbivores = restore health?) or something like this. I haven't really thought about it, I also am not sure what wildlife will already be found within the game.
Give me your opinion! This is my "market research"

Im Also Studying Game Animation/Design at College and make a few basic games.
I think you have got some good elements in that idea... But im not sure that every one would be intrested in running around as a elephant or Zebra. But i like the Idea of a Predator Mod. Since Predator was a massive hit on XBL It was the mainly played game setting. I would like to see the Predator re-skinned and re-animated though, since i felt it was lacking in some majour visual ways.
Or if it wasnt the standard FCE Predator you where talking about, Then Animal Predatores could be intresting. Eg: Lion, Hyeena, Tiger Ect..
Maybe if you go in to more detail about how the mod would work and what the basic goal of the mod would be.then we could give better feed back.

I would like to be a tiger that eats other humans to gain health and dominate an area. Also want the ability to mate and have baby tigers in my clan that support my carnage. I'll eat other animals, but I'd rather become a feared MAN eater that stalks, and hunts its prey at night.

The concept in my mind is essentially animals versus animals, possibly incorperated with animals versus man. I agree that probably no one would want to play a zebra or a species often preyed upon. That's why they would likely be NPCs and be the "health packs" of the game.
Essentially what it would boil down to is the player controlling some type of predator: lions, cheetahs, leopards, etc. and possibly the other "big five" (buffalo, rhino, elephant). The game would be multiplayer, in some type of team based game or free for all.
Team based would work like a pack of this versus a pack of that, free for all is self explanitory. Man could also be another option for the player/team, armed with only a few weapons such as a rifle, knife, etc (rockets versus a lion aint fair!).
I just like the idea so much because I picture myself as a lion or cheetah silently racing through the tall grass and pouncing on an unsuspecting victim. As a first hand witness to a huge pack of lions taking down a wildebeest, it's one of the most amazing sights - so to live that experience would be even more awesome.

Before you commit any new mod to an engine, you have to ask yourself, "Do you have an SDK or editor punk, well do ya". If they say no, they wont have an SDK/Editor for the engine, then move on, because the engine is useless to a mod team without one. You can model all year, but without a way of exporting the models to the engine, your pee'ing in the wind.
Chosing an engine to mod is one of the hardest parts, so tread carfully. Or just visit the Stalker and BF2142 forums to see how frustrated mod teams are without the above
Seriously though, wait until UBI communicate anykind of mod support, cause without it, your better off continuing browsing. Yeah I want the FC2 SDK so dont want to put a downer on it, but its not that far away from game release in Dev months, so am surprised nothing has been said thus far.
And for those FC 1 players that dont really care, consider this, if we dont get the mod tools and they dont include Assault, we cant mod it for you!!!

This debate reminded me of an old DOS game, called Lion .
It basically what you suggested with the exception that you played, as one might gather from the game title, a Lion only. From sibling to adulthood.
It was quite detailed too, both in presenting real world knowledge and in game mechanics, eg. locating far away creatures (including human hunters) based distance, smell and sound, last two of which were in turn based on distance, hunger, tiredness, daylight (game had day & night cycles) etc. Good old times.

Check the MobyGames page of the game, and here are two screenshots:

Why have you posted that in two differnt topics -.-"
Considering there is already a game type called "Predator" the MODing Wouldnt be very hard at all..
- Copy over the Predator game type Files... Re-skin the Predator in to which ever beast it is you wanted to amke and then just re-animate it.

Oh, when I saw that the first time I posted, it didn't show up in this topic, I thought that connection must have timed out. Haven't noticed that I posted in the wrong topic.
