Thread: 8800 GTS driver recommendations? | Forums

  1. #1
    Hi all-

I've been messing around with Nvidia drivers a bit trying to get the best performance out of my new system:

    Intel E6600
    MSI p6n SLI mobo
    2 gigs Kingston RAM
    Evga 8800 GTS 320mb

I tried the latest Nvidia driver 158.22, and got frame rates averaging 50-60 fps with a minimum of 15 in The Black Death.

Also lately tried a v2.15822 driver from NGOHQ.com, which more than doubled the fps but also produced horizontal screen interference, which I fixed by enabling vsync, which brought the fps back down to where they were before.

Seems like I should be able to get better performance out of this system without dialing down the graphics settings. (I am running "excellent" settings, except trees=2 and water=1). That's why I'm looking at drivers. So... any suggestions?

    Thanks

My system is about equal to yours, apart from different brand of RAM ('A-Data Technology' ???), and Mobo (Asus P5LD2-SE).

My FPS's on the Black Death track are AVG on 56, minimum 15.

    Only difference is that I'm running Perfect Landscape, water=4, AA=8xQ, AF=8x, 1152x864x32.
VSync is on. Extension Limit is off.

Using 158.22, have not been fooling 'round with drivers yet.

Me thinks ya should be able to do better... but that does not help ya much...

Maybe you are running at a higher resolution?
Is the rest of the system configured to its optimum?
(Speed of CPU and memory and such?)

Thanks, yeah, I forgot to mention I'm running 1600x1200x32 on a 21" Samsung LCD monitor. 4x AA and AF. As mentioned, vsync is on. What does Extension limit do?

And BIOS is only showing my RAM at 667mhz, although it's supposed to be 800. Haven't been able to figure that one out, maybe that's what I should be delving into here?

Dunno about that memory speed thing.
    Mine's at 333.9Mhz (according to Cpu-z)...

Aren't them speeds also dependant on Mobo and CPU front side bus and stuff?

Hey, my Dell 19" CRT should be able to do 1600x1200... will test and report back...

Yep, I got triple buffering on too.

FoolTrottel, looks like we're getting comparable readings in 1600x1200..

It is pretty nice as is, I'll just keep my eyes open for more tweaks. Thanks for your input! Cheers to the helpful community here

I'm running 165.01. They seem ok but I can't tell you if they'll squeeze extra fps out for you.

If you want them, Google it.
