Thread: IL2 Backup | Forums

Ok, recently, I installed a certain MOD, from a certain website (I'm not saying name..I don't want this post closed). Well, I made a backup of my entire 1946 game directory. Since then, I have progressed into Okinawa on the Seafire campaign. However, after I installed another MOD, my game now CTD's after loading to 60%. Since I made a backup directory, I should be able to use that one now, but the problem is, I want to save my progress is the Seafire campaign. Which files in the corrupted directory do I have to save? I know I have to do the Il2: 1946/Missions/Campaign/RN/dgen_p_iwodoe0, and all the files in the Campaign folder, but are there any others. I'm 99.9% positive none of this is corrupt, as it was the MOD that did it, so I know I can save what I need to without any problems. Thanks!

    Yes:

    'Users' folder, including all subfolders.
'Dgen' folder, if it is indeed a DGEN campaign (as opposed to an NGEN, or community made/downloaded ones)

If you've got plenty of diskspace, make sure you 'save' the corrupted folder for now, just until you've made sure you can continue your seafire campaign...
(So you may even later on copy some skins you might have missed)

    Good Luck!

Thanks Trottel. I've got the DGen, DGen folder, Users folder, and Missions folder, all with included subfolders, copied to a folder in My Documents. The problem now is that I can't remove the "corrupted" IL2 directory, because it says to close all programs that might be using it. Should I just copy and paste the backup, "clean" directory over the "corrupted" one, then copy the saved DGen, etc. into the new directory and just overwrite, or would that cause a problem? Thanks.

Do not do that. Chances are, you'll still be in trouble in the end.

You should be able to delete that folder, as no programs should be using it. Try again after a reboot.

Sorry I haven't responded in a few days. I've had a really bad stomach bug that seems to be going around. Doing alot batter now, though.

Anyway, Honestly, I'm not sure that deleting the DGen, Missions, etc. would work, as the directory is corrupted somewhere else, such as the MODS folder. I've posted a help request on the un-named site, but they have yet to respond, and I asked them how to uninstall the MOD that corrupted me. Anyway, You know more about this thatn I do, so I will try your advice first, then reply again witht hte results. Thanks!

Ok, no joy. I'm thinking about re-installing IL2 alltogether, and then just copying, pasteing, and overwriting the DGen, Missions, Users, etc. Any idea if it'll work?

That's what I do if I have problems, save a copy of the stated folders, then completely uninstall and wipe il2, then reinstall and copy those items back overwriting.

No problems with the game, I take it? I just want to be safe so I don't have to start an entirely new campaign just because it wouldn't let me copy/paste the new files.
