Thread: Settings For X850XT | Forums

  1. #1
    ~S~

I have just installed my new ATi X850XT and I am wondering what settings you guys are running out there especially with the new .dlls.

The settings I'm looking at are the Game Set Up, In Game Video Settings and the config.ini file.

I have followed various threads and the suggestions of -HH-Quazi and PF_Coastie, but with the new .dlls I thought I'd pose the question?

Also, how can I tell if all 16 Pipelines are open and it isn't restricted to just 12?

    My rig is...
    P4 2.99 Ghz HT CPU
    1 Gb RAM
    Ati X850XT 250mb

If you need to know anymore info than that, then please just ask!

Thanks in advance from someone who is on a huge learning curve at the moment!!!

Right now your rig is "slightly" cpu limited. Meaning that the cpu is holding back the Video card slightly. You should be able to do some nice eye candy with say 4xAA and 8x Aniso at a reasonable resolution.

You should also be able to use Water=2 and effects=1 for light action. But you may be better off experimenting for yourself.

Welcome to the X850XT club, Vortex
    My favourite settings:
IL2 setup: 1600x1200x32 resolution, trilinear, no compression
    Confini: effects 1, water 0
Ingame settings: everything at the highest values, perfect landscape, medium clouds.
ATI Control Panel settings: OpenGL, Quality, A/Ax4, A/Fx2
    My rig almost like yours: P4 3.0@3.3, 1Gb DDR, X850XT @600/564
Results : Black Death track from second 5 to 2:30 37 fps average.
    Enjoy your new monster!

Was reading on a different forum (Battlefield 2) that when you install a different card going from 128mb to 256mb, that you have to change a setting in the BIOS.

Yes, I have now changed it, but the question is why? Anyone care to enlighten me?

    Thanks!

Never knew of a setting one needs to change going from a 128Mb card to a 256Mb card. So what setting was it you changed? And btw, did you come up with some settings that works well with your card m8?

If not, I'll share mine with you. One of these guys here PM'd me and asked for my CCC, IL2Setup, and Conf file settings. After I shared them with him, he replied back and seemed estatic with the way the sim looked and played. So if you are interested in those, let me know.

    ~S~ Quazi!

This is the quote from the Battlefield 2 Forum...

Also rememeber if this is your first vid card with 256mg then don't forget to go into bios and change AGP settings to 256.
Sure enough, I went into the BIOS and there in the GPU settings was the ability to change it to 256mb. I have to admit that I can't really see any differences!

I'm going to the run the Blackdeath track tomorrow and post my results. My settings are based completely on PF_Coasties (except for running on Water 2 and the Test 2 dll files) so it would be good to have yours to so that I can compare them. I'll of course post the results on yours as well if that's OK?

I think the BIOS setting you guys refer to is "AGP Aperture Size" which the experts say is NOT set to the Mb of RAM on your card eg 128/256MB for ultimate performance, but a lower value 64 (or even 32 some say gives best results-its what my X800XT PEs at anyway!)

256mb is recommended by Nvidia for the AGP aperature on their 256 mb cards in the 6800 series. You may experience errors at lower values, at least that's what they say.

You may want to check your PCI latency, as a new card may reset back to the higher 200's number.
