Thread: FarCry won't initialize | Forums

Hello. I've been reading posts on this forum to try and figure out the problem, but I have yet to find any advice that worked for me.

My younger brother purchased FarCry. We attempted to run it on a 128 MB video card, but it was horrible. So, he went out and bought a 256 9600 XT Radeon card, and the difference is amazing. It was running fine. However, we recently got high speed internet at home, and it seems like we've been having problems starting the game ever since. We get the splash screen at the beginning. Before a couple days, we would subsequently get the XP blue screen (with no text or hex addresses or anything), and then the PC would restart. I've been making steady progress. I downloaded the latest catalyst drivers, directx 9.0c, and installed the latest patch (1.3). Now, the computer doesn't restart, but the game isn't working, either. After clicking on either the desktop shortcut or the auto-play "play" button, I get the splash screen, but after about 10 seconds, I get an error:

CRITICAL ERROR: Error loading DLL: XRenderD3D9.dll, error code -1073741682.

All other PC programs are not running at the moment. I have tested my memory both through BIOS and through memtest. I have played around with the graphics card / agp settings and that hasn't done anything either.

Any help would be extremely appreciated. I'm really running out of ideas. Thanks in advance.
