Ok so Windows 7 Says those things are up to date Draikos and I was lucky enough to wake up to see Steam had downloaded the update, still, not working tho.

Zobie100 I found the file and changed it to true, now its just blank.

This is ridiculous it should work.

Thanks, zobie100! That was exactly what I needed. It kept crashing 9 out of 10 times right after the first logo. Getting rid of the loading screen solved it.

Muaddib98, it shouldn't be blank after changing it.

Great to hear Riamus and Muaddib98 make sure the profile file change is exactley how I have it written, as the profile wont tell you that you have something wrong. Also try to delete the profile file then open the game and let it crash and then try to change or add this item to the profile file.

I am wondering if anyone else is having a problem downloading the newest patch for the game though. I have steam and tried to update with the gu.exe in the correct folder but right before it updates I get a error,"
can't apply patch because Might & Magic Heroes VI is not yet installed"

After looking around I see that this is because steam has to do the actual update because they have to add some code to the file to make it work with steam. Is this happening for anyone else, or if i could get redirected to where this fix is, thanks everyone.

Hi, I got the exact same computer.
Adding <SkipOpening>true</SkipOpening> to the ProfileData file worked for me.

Okey, Heroes. We have new solution for BlackScreen issue (check "FIX 3" in this manual). Thanks to zobie100 for information about this. Here the resfreshed manual is:

    *******************************************
    "BEFORE DOING ALL OF THIS"
    *******************************************
    - Update your game to the last actual version (v. 1.1.1)

    *******************************************
"FIX 1 (For version 1.1 of the game, not for 1.1.1)"
    *******************************************
You need to do some steps for setup:
    ------
    Install:
    ------
STEP1: Open Start->"My computer" (or "Computer" for Windows Vista, 7) and go to the folder, where you installed Heroes 6.
    For 32bit(x86) system:
-default path system: "C:\Program files\Might & Magic: Heroes VI"
-if you purchased it from steam default path: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\might and magic heroes vi"
    For 64bit(x64) system:
-default path system: "C:\Program files (x86)\Might & Magic: Heroes VI"
-if you purchased it from steam default path: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\might and magic heroes vi"
STEP2: Create a folder named "backup" in it.
STEP3: Copy file named "Might & Magic: Heroes VI.exe" to this "backup" folder. We've done backup of old .exe file.
    STEP4: Download rar-archive from http://www.mediafire.com/?3z2p426t863g57q
STEP5: Unpack(exract) it to your desktop
by using program, for example, WinRAR - link for download(english):
    WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 4.01
    WinRAR x64 (64 bit) 4.01
    Another languages: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
STEP6: On your desktop you see file named "Might & Magic: Heroes VI.exe" - copy this file to the game folder (that we previously went on the STEP1) and on message: "replace it or not" click "Yes"(or "Replace")

    After that, fix succefully installed.

    ------
    WHAT "FIX 1" DO:
    ------
    1) Fixes the start up issue (black screen)
    2) Fixes blinking/disappearing mouse

    ------
    "FIX 1" BREAK(problems after fix):
    ------
    1) Conflux connection - after this fix you can't connect to Conflux.

It's not official fix, and there is no guarantee that it will help you.

    *******************************************
"FIX 2 (FOR NVIDIA AND INTEL GRAPHIC CARDS)"
    *******************************************
    ------
    Install:
    ------
    STEP1: Download reg-file from http://www.mediafire.com/?lmmrh08lcd38hqt
STEP2: Run it and click "Yes" when it will ask you about making changes.
    STEP3: Restart your PC.
    And now it's installed successfully.

Info about what reg file does:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-u...ws/hardware/gg487368

    ------
WHAT "FIX 2 - FOR NVIDIA AND INTEL GRAPHIC CARDS" DO:
    ------
    1) Fixes the start up issue (black screen) and crash

It's not official fix, and there is no guarantee that it will help you.

    *******************************************
"FIX 3 (HOW TO BYPASS THE INTRO – BLACKSCREEN FIX)"
    *******************************************
STEP1: Open Profile Data file in C:\Users\NAME\Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI\NAME , where NAME - it's name of your user.
STEP2: Search "SkipOpening" in this "Profile Data" file.
    STEP3: Change it to:
    <SkipOpening>true</SkipOpening>

    ------
WHAT "FIX 3 (HOW TO BYPASS THE INTRO – BLACKSCREEN FIX)" DO:
    ------
    1) Fixes the start up issue (black screen).

    *******************************************
    "FIX 4 (UBISOFT LAUCHER FIX)"
    *******************************************
For fixing crash of the Ubisoft laucher you can do these steps:
STEP1: Delete "Ubisoft game laucher" and restart the computer.
STEP2: Download Ubisoft game laucher from here: http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orb...auncherInstaller.exe
STEP3: Install this and restart the computer.

    *******************************************
"FIX 5 (Crash game fix: 'This application failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found')"
    *******************************************
The problem is that some program deleted this file or moved this file.
STEP1: Find the file named "MFC71.dll" in the C:\windows\system32
STEP2: Copy this to the C:\windows\system
If the issue isn't fixed, go to STEP3.
STEP3: You have different ways to fix it:
1 way: download latest internet explorer and install it: http://windows.microsoft.com/e...xplorer/downloads/ie - it has this file.
2 way: download latest windows updates, because security updates also refresh this file and return.
3 way: download this file from the internet.
After this check that this file is in both folders "C:\windows\system32" and "C:\windows\system"

    *******************************************
    MORE:
    *******************************************
    1) For fixing blinking cursor you can also try:
Run game, click on options button and turn off "V-Sync" in graphics options. (it helped some users)
    2) Don't remember to check out this actions: link <-- click on it.
Because many people had a beta installed before. (pay attention to: "If the Beta or Demo was installed on your PC, you should uninstall the Beta or Demo and the Ubisoft game Launcher. After that we advise you to install the game and Uplay launcher again. Also remove the files located in My Documents / Might & Magic Heroes VI")
    3) To fix errors you can also try to install game to another folder (not to default).
    4) You can also try to update your graphic card drivers:
    -Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com
    English language link: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Downlo...ndex.aspx?lang=en-uk
    -ATI: http://www.amd.com
    English language link: http://support.amd.com/us/gpud...oad/Pages/index.aspx
    5) You can also try to update your DirectX by using link:
Update directX by using: http://www.microsoft.com/downl...n/details.aspx?id=35 - download it and run.
    6) Try to run "As Administrator" (right mouse button clik on file) and check your antivirus settings(maybe turn off it for little time to check) - it can block it.
    7) Check firewall settings (start -> control panel -> firewall) and add exceptions for heroes 6 game in it. ( link to: what ports need to be opened)
    8) Install VC redist 2008: http://www.microsoft.com/downl...details.aspx?id=5582 and restart the computer.
    9) Install .net framework 4: http://www.microsoft.com/downl...etails.aspx?id=17851 and restart the computer.

Tried fix 2 and 3 + the dl/update VC redist and .net framework but still having the black screen on startup (unable to play the game).

Issue as follows: Uplay launcher loads fine, upon pressing 'Play' the game seems to begin loading, the screen goes black and the mouse cursor changes to the gauntlet style of the game.
Game then hangs in black screen without being able to alt tab or anything to see other windows/desktop.
Upon ctrl+alt+del to bring up the logout/task manager etc screen the following error window becomes visible sitting over the top of everything else:

"This application failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"

This error message cannot be closed as it persists despite clicking either the 'ok' button or the close window 'x' in the top right corner. It does go after ending the Heroes game via task manager though.

    System specs as follows:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz
Asus 1GB GTX 560 Ti (Nvidia) graphics card
    4GB DDR3 mem
Windows Vista (32bit) Home Premium Service Pack 2

Any advice would be appreciated otherwise it looks like I'll have to return the game.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: Forgot to mention all drivers are up to date and the game is from a purchased cd (not downloaded).
