Hi, I am on vista home x64 bit and I installed 1946 today. I downloaded the 4.08 patch and installed it but it keeps showing 4.07 on the splash screen. Please help. (I have run everything under admin.

Try installing the patch to a new folder on your desktop, if it extracted properly you should have a bunch of separate files in the folder. Once you have that new folder full of the patch files (including files.sfs and such as that) then just copy all those files and past them into your game folder and choose to overwrite.

Moving it manually would be a pain, he should be able to just let it automatically extract.

I didn't have any trouble installing the 4.08 patch with UAC on but my guess is that UAC or the admin activation is doing something to prevent the files from being moved to your Il-2 files properly. I would try turning off UAC then try installing 4.08.

If you want to use Il-2 with no UAC worries whether UAC is on or off, move your Il-2 folders from C:\Program Files/x86 to C:\ or to some other area of your hard drive that isn't in Program Files.

Otherwise you won't be able to save anything in your Il-2 files (like conf.ini) without annoying steps like moving the file to the desktop, saving it, then moving it back, etc etc. Also you won't have to deal with the hidden virtual folder annoyance.

This is one of the few things that is legitimately annoying about Vista.

Lol, never mind, thanks for the help! It was installing to c:/program files/ instead of c:/programfiles(x86)/.

    Well that would do it.

I would still recommend moving your Il-2 files out of the program files just to avoid all the UAC hassles.

If you keep it in c:/programfiles(x86) or c:/programfiles you might find you have trouble wen you want to edit the Conf.ini to fine tune your graphics etc.

btw, we are currently already at Patch 4.09m, but due to lack of suport or poor release strategy a lot of people still have not installed it.
