Thread: Distance and Detail | Forums

So I get on the boat and do a couple of 'drive-by' [sail-by?] shootings on the beach to clear out the merc's. I can see them in the binoculars and pump hundreds of rounds into the area they stand in, but nothing is damaged. It seems that the scenery is so beautiful at a distance because there is no detail once you are a few tens of 'yards' away.

I appreciate why this is done, but I think the drop off is too short, happens to fast if you prefer, and I would expect the bullets to inflict damage even if I can't see where they impact.

The 'if you can't see it you can't hit it' idea just doesn't work for me I'm afraid, neither does the checkpoint-save idea. It's better than the limited-save idea of some games as you can end up running out of saves halfway through the mission simply because you have no idea how long it is.

Having to clear out the tunnels 7 times to get the MP5-SD because I made tactical mistakes clearing the Fort was very frustrating, made more so by the fact that any dropped weapons and ammo disappeared after a checkpoint load. This caused me to lose the sniper ammo from the guy in the gun emplacement outside the main fort and the grenade launcher from the command centre door [I hid in the short tunnel where the armour was and ran past the helo in case anyone cares ]. It also meant I had to go into the command centre with only 19 rounds of MP5 ammo left and hope I could get an M4 from someone fast. Not an issue in the demo level fortunately as I got the commanders M4, and the level ended shortly thereafter. My only other option was to clear the tunnels again and grab the M4 from somewhere before hitting the checkpoint.
