STALKER Clear Skies is not going to be nearly as realistic though with all the over the top exaggerations of the nuclear zone.
Boiling Point might have been something close had it not had terrible gunplay, graphics, sound, physics, lag, character interaction, etc, etc. Don't know why people even bought that game.
I don't think anything out there will be noticably comparable to Far Cry 2 if they pull it off well. It's going to be like one of those hunting games combined with Far Cry done sandbox style. How mnany games fit that description? Well, you certainly can tell by the few responses on this thread what the answer to that is.
My only worry is that despite Ubi Montreal trying to become the largest game studio on the planet, they have not had a good track record for lasting sp gameplay, mp content, and PC titles of this type.
The Splinter Cell series they did is beautifull graphically and has some very nice character moves, but after a couple play throughs the sp is boring. The mp for SC has never been good.
None the less since it is Ubi's publishing that draws most qualms and not their dev studio, I will reserve judgement until release of this title. Even if it's a great game though it will be hard to forget the PC titles they've turned into console games and the very sub par support they've given.
Ubi's latest marketing of GRAW2 certainly doesn't lend much hope that this title will be well supported. GRAW2 is being talked about as having numerous bugs and word is Ubi gave the developers just 4 weeks to patch the game. Enough money in their pockets to run the largest studio on the planet by 2013 yet they're too cheap to offer proper support, really disgusting if you ask me.

well, they can be similar in gameplay feature but the execution will be totally different. that's why I can play many games similar at heart but they still feel different. mostly it's art design, story and sound which is most important to me to have those different experiences when gaming. if I would go with innoviation and gameplay variation then I could only play 1 game every 3 years. the industry is not very innovative. the more budget, the less experiments. this wave of open-ended shooters for 2007/8 is nice but hardly anything new. it's more like a revival, only with better graphics (as always).
for me what games I play is more determined by my pocketbook than my interests. I could play much more games I own but don't have the time/money.

COD4 is like my best game and ive played it for about 4 dayz altogether which is quite a lot considering i get home from work at 6. I dont think any game can even come close to cod4 in terms of it being just so much fun online, but i hope far cry 2 will prove me wrong.

CoD 4 is great, the only way to beat it's offline splitscreen is by making it moddable in FC2 that would be epic ownage
