Thread: Sentry Removal Techniques | Forums

Ninja used to attack from their enemie's blindspots. The human eye also consists of a blind spot when the person is focused on an object or small area at a distance, their field of view reduces to an only effective 6% cone of view in front of them. The ninja of Japan used to utilize that precise time when their enemy was focused on something to move in, literally from infront of the enemy and strike, without the enemy ever seeing the ninja approach.

I'm curious of whether the developers knew of this type of blind spot in the human eyes. If they did, I wonder if they thought about adding into the game, and/or if they ever tried.

It's been said that even the Viet Cong knew this technique of using the human eye's natural blind spots to literally dissappear from an opponents field of view. Practically vanish before their very eyes.

There was an episode in the X-Files that delved into this phenomenom of exploiting the human blindspots.

Here's a few links I wish the developers would watch before they complete the game.

It would be cool if thats why they didnt notice Sam right away in some parts

he noticed Sam and didnt shoot...i mean he just stared at Sam while he ran up to him

Hell yeah. Kickass documentary. I knew about the technique long before the documentary, but I didn't know the dynamics of the percentages. I just always knew that you could approach someone easily when they are deeply focused and/or distracted.

I didn't know about that rapid eye movement causes blind spots as well. I thought that was really cool.

Could be explained by his mind being in such an aggitated state and the rapid eye movements allowed Sam to approach unseen. Ever walked up to someone who was in shock? They literally are looking at you, but they don't see you. You can even try to talk to them, and they won't even hear you. Always happens to women in car accidents and typically to some soldiers in war. They showed that effect on the mind/eyes/ears in Saving Private Ryan when Tom Hanks landed on the beach.

Not to mention, Kobin shot something that exploded while Sam was on the ledge, possibly that explosion affected his vision enough that Sam was able to approach without being seen.

From what I have seen, it looks like some of these techniques are in the game. The first door Sam goes through, he shoots the light and guard. Guard #2 was distracted by the light and didn't see Sam run towards him. Similar thing happened when Sam threw the EMP grenade.

    thats another thing i noticed

when sam threw the EMP grenade he was completely visable to the guard

so some explanations would be if he was in shock or scared in some way and didnt notice
or if he saw the emp and thought it was something els like a frag grenade...and its also been stated that the starting AI isnt very smart

Nice take down move at about 1:25 in this video.

At 2:12 in this video, he explains how an opponent who is suddenly confronted by something so terrifying can be frozen in fear allowing the attack to approach without retaliation.
