Thread: That sound | Forums

  1. #1
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I just recently registered with asking this question as motive.

There's a sound that is associated either with sinking or diving, or possibly just watercraft in general. It's at the very end of the Silent Hunter 4 trailer, that sort of ticking sound. I've heard it there, and I know I've heard it elsewhere (Probably U-571, Das Boot or Red October). That eerie sound, combined with the silence of the ocean, just makes me think "Wow, that sound is wicked creepy, I wonder what it is?"

    What is it?

    Welcome to the SH3 forums

I think you mean the creaking sound...? If so, I think it's the sound of the steel hull adjusting to the water pressure.

Do you play Silent Hunter 3? You can hear the same sound when you order your U-boat to dive.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

that sound, I'm pretty sure is the sound of the ships hull dealing with the increased amount of pressure on it. I think.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Ahh, thanks. I have now been fulfilled.

Unfortunately, I do not own Silent Hunter 3, I don't have a DVD-ROM drive I will probably buy one soon after I save a little money, but I might just skip 3 and wait 'till 4 comes out.

As we drifted along going from silent running to "0" propulsion in hopes of confounding the enemy destroyer, we heard our hull creak from the compression of the tons of water we swam in.

It was ominous, the sonar man shouted, splashes fore and above. We listened intently as the boat slowed and lost it's way.. Suddenly the clicks of the depth charges fuses broke the silence and we instinctively braced as the sub was wracked from above and forward by the explosives waves of the charges. Click, wham, click wham then suddenly simultaneous clicks, I glanced over at the chief of the boat and wham, wham, wham then wet darkness.....

My head was pounding the boat was stifling and the air nasty with the smells of compressed air and sweat. The blood on my head was all that was left from my run in with the vlave above the green board. The chief had grabbed me bodily as I catapulted from the periscope stack to the valves wheel.

We had survived. The run was over and we were underway at depth and moving from the attack point...
    "Remember the Wahoo!!!"

    on permanent patrol ...

    Hi all!

I've been playing SH3 for a couple of years now.
I've only started using mods recently and have a few queries.
I use the JSGME to install the mods.
The mods I use are the NYGM tonnage, the MVP-1.0 and I tried using the RUb1.45 but apparently it uses much of the NYGM mod (correct me if I'm wrong?).
I've just acquired the Grey Wolves mod and was wondering if it has to be loaded seperately or can it run with other mods.
The JSGME lets you enable/disable the various mods.
Would I have to run seperate careers for different mods or can they run in conjunction?
Any advice would be most welcome and appreciated.

    Cheers

The Grey Wolves mod is a stand alone mod and cannot be used with any other of the big mods. However I have installed GW and have placed some smaller mods over the top with no dire effects. I have added Fubars crew and habour personnel skins too.

It is best to install GW over a clean install and patched SH3.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

That would be a big mistake! Trust us, you will thank us if you buy SH3 and get into it as many of us here have.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
