Thread: "Ubisoft Game Launcher Error. Reinstalling the game may fix this problem" | Forums

    I have From Dust from Steam. I installed it with no problems, but when I try playing it today, I get the following error: "Ubisoft Game Launcher Error. Reinstalling the game may fix this problem". I reinstalled the game, no luck.

    So I go to the Steam commons folder and try uninstalling and reinstalling my Ubisoft Game Laucncher. For some [edit:swearing removed] reason, I can't change the install directory of my Ubisoft Game Launcher. The installer forces it to download to C:/WINDOWS, which the installer ITSELF says is an illegal download location.

    Let me get this straight. Ubisoft forces me to use the Game Launcher to play a game. The Game Launcher FAILS TO WORK, and the installer for the game launcher forces me to install to an uninstallable location. What the [edit:swearing removed] is this [edit:swearing removed]

    Also, my computer specs excell the recommended.

    Do any other programs do that?
    Have you tried copying and pasting the program into the right place?

    No other programs face this issue. Also, I installed From Dust using Steam. The Ubisoft Installer was included in the Steam files. But it wont let me change the install directory, so I guess I'm going to sit here, stare at From Dust, and wish I could play it. Meanwhile I'm going to try Ubisofts Technical support, though I doubt they will do jack s**t about it.

    People have installed fine from steam, as the many threads display - so there seems to be some strange issue going on - either with the install or your PC.

    Not pointing fingers, just trying to help - since others have no problems.

    Support are the best place to get advice, but please make sure you answer all replies from them - the first reply may be a simple FAQ - make sure to tell them if that does not work!

    Just SMASHING. I can't even submit a question on Ubisoft's support page! The "continue" button is stuck!

    This is an all time low for any company I've seen.

    I feel bad now. I was receiving the same error, but your suggestion of running the game launcher installer worked for me.

    I would say try running Steam and/or the launcher installer as an Administrator (right-click the executable and choose "Run as Administrator" in case you've never had to) and seeing if anything goes differently.

    Possible solution!!
    1. Delete your old launcher if you have it, it would be located under:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher
    or C:\Program Files \Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher
    Just delete the "Ubisoft Game Launcher" folder completely.
    2. Download the launcher separately (credit to forum user "Chris2Collins" for the link) - http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orb...auncherInstaller.exe
    and install.
    3. Run From Dust.exe, it should open the new launcher first, then prompt you for user name and pass and steam cd key, and your good to go!
