Wasn't the RAF formed after WW1? WW1 being the RFC obviously.
Years of AAFC has taught me plenty of RAAF history thoughFounded on the 31st of March 1921 as the Australian Air Force, and received the Royal prefix in August 1921.

RAF came into existence on 1 April 1918 by combining the RFC and RNAS in a single air service---much to the misfortune of fleet air power---some civil servant had a real sense of "humour."
Just realised - somehow I managed to get 2008-90 = 1915

Hi all,
The Royal Air Force was created on April 1st 1918 about 6 months before the end of WW1.It became independent from the British Army and Royal Navy.
Their title had been the Royal Flying Corps.
The 'death rate' of Royal Flying Corps aircrew was far higher than soldiers in the front line.
But that's another story...
