Just came into a room during the beat up scene in A Guy Named Joe where Van Johnson gives a flying "demonstration" over his base in an early P-38. Sooooo sweet the sound of those two Allisons humming and throbbing (vibrato as it rolled on its back). One of the best flying scenes in film.

    Oh so true.

And, I had no idea Van Johnson passed away 2 months ago.

I was just wondering if he was still around. Haven't seen anything about him in years.

It was remade somewhat as "Always" in 1989 with Richard Dreyfus Holly Hunter, and John Goodman.
It was also the last film for Audrey Hepburn.

    I personally liked both movies.

ST plays a hot dog fighter pilot who gets killed. He returns as a spirit capable of speaking to his girl and the guy (Van Johnson) who wants to marry his girl (though they don't really know who is giving the advice). This is how he gets behind VJ in the phot. He guides VJ to be a hot dog fighter pilot and, finally, is able to let go of the girl. Happy ending. Note: girl hops into a P-38 (she is a hot shot civvy pilot) and blasts an enemy base to perdition. Some sort of first.

Ya know, Lionel Ritchie recently shared an anecdote in an interview: He had met just met a young lady and the young lady said to him; "Ritchie, huh, oh! You're Nicole Ritchie's fathers!"

This thread makes me feel like that young lady.
