Thread: Holding breath | Forums

For some reason, I can't ever hold my breath. I have it bound to my spacebar (default) and another key (kp_4), but whenever I press them or hold them down, nothing happens. This doesn't work under water, and it doesn't work when I am sniping and want to steady the scope.

Is there something I'm not doing right? Any tips?

Check to see if there's a button conflict in your control setup.

Holding your breath doesn't do anything underwater (nor in gas clouds) and it only works using the "proper" sniper rifle, not a scoped rifle. Is this what you're doing?

I checked, and there are no conflicts with my keys. Also, when you say "proper" sniper rifle, I assume you mean the barrett (or the rifle that automatically comes with the sniper). That is the rifle I use when sniping, and it doesn't hold still when I press the "hold breath" key down.

You have to be prone(press v), zoom scope(mouse wheel), then spacebar.

You actually do not have to be prone. You either have a conflict, are not actually using the sniper rifle, or just dont notice the little extra zoom and steadiness the "hold your breath key" gives you.

Fantastic! I'm on my way through FC one more time, 1st time was brilliant, terrifying, to be remembered. Gone all fan-boy on this game, its brilliant. I didn't realise that there was a hold-breath function, on my machine "Hold Breath" shows up in Multiplayer control options, which I hadn't been looking at.
Initially its set to 'Space', but this conflicts with jump in my settings (can't remember if that's default or not), so I changed it, any off-hand key'll do nicely, sniping requires patience so you don't need a nearby key.
I can't believe the difference its made this time through. Its like another level of zoom, and even more stability, fewer wasted rounds. Of course I just assume (naturally) that this means that I'm a crack shot for having gotten through once without it!
Its an awesome game HL2/D3 have their work cut out for them. Well done guys.
