When the game is over - and screens says to press "X" to continue - nothing happens. I can use toggles to look around but that is it.

It takes some time indeed. Just be patient and play with your XMB or whatever and try to press X from time to time (I do that, lol). Yesterday I finished a campaign Mission ... I thought the game froze on me; fortunately i didn't restart my ps3 and later on, pressing X worked
i have the same problem
i press psn button and exit game and come back on and you still get th epoints u earned
but not sure about the record
dont push x right away,wait 5-10 seconds, if you do it sooner it will freeze for a period of time, after the 5-10 ive never had any problems =)

Same with me, realised this after my 20th game or something though
