Thread: Playing with 100% realism, is this possible with the stock game? | Forums

Can any developer, Ubi employee.. or anybody else who had designed this game show me/us how to play this game on 100% realism without mods?! Because I can't, it's just impossible. Stadimeter not works, on heavy seas the scope just rolls all over.. there is no way that I can gather any info about any target in the game using 100% realism settings. I payed 50EUR for a product that supose to work, but somehow it fails to do so.

Or maybe I'm just ******ed, in this case maybe a developer be so kind an help slow people and make a video or any kind of tutorial about howto manual TDC with 100%realism. To be honest, I have my doubts that any developer or Ubi employee played this game at 100% realism, actually.. I'm sure about that.

There are no developers, much less official Ubi representives here.

Your first problem is demanding to the play the game without mods. All your problems have been fixed with mods. *shrug*

If you still for whatever reason continue to desire to play without mods, just realize that A) the standimeter is broken and B) as was mentioned on the options page, non-stablized scopes makes the game VERY difficult.

There's a ton of TDC examples available on this forum and others that should be able to help you.

Your main problem is playing without mods though. This is a simulator, the "stock" game is just a platform, not the end goal.

That's why I put the question here and not elsewhere. Being on an official forum, I expect an official response from those who sold me their product. And when I bought this product, the only thing that was wrote on the box and manual was that it requires permanent internet connection. Nothing about this product "is just a platform, not the end goal".

But hey, you are a player, so I take no offence with your reply and I still wait for an official response from any Ubi employee. If this is not the Ubisoft official SH5 forum, then please somebody point me into the right direction.

    Hi sailors!

Playing with 100% realism is possible with the stock game, by me. I play with this setting of the stock game all time from SH3.

Aiming is the hardest in SH5 from all SH’s, but not impossible. Elevation of a mast (by the standimeter measurement) is from waterline to „T” on the mast (it applies to a merchants), or to a masthead (a war ship). It means to measure a mast without an antenna, in any case.

And during aiming is necessary figure with speed of aiming ship. My way of this is... to aim front in the aimed point upon ship, to set a parameter (angle of bow or speed etc.) and when the aiming point is crossing the vertical line of the periscope cross, I'm sending the entered value to the TDC. With little time of a practice and a quick finger upon a mouse, is possible achieved quite good fruitfulness.

    Good hunting sailors!

Oke, so tell me.. how do u determine the speed of your target if the recon manual has no ship lenght value? How can you measure a distance on the map if the drawing tools can count only by 50 to 50m, so for example if you have a real distance of 1132m on map you will have 1150m.

There were stadimeter problems with the stock SH3 and SH4 games - both fixed by mods. SH5 also fixed by mods.

As for the 50 meter granularity, it is not a problem. I expect that in the real U-boat world, that was about as accurate as one ever got at any sort of distance. Radar, used extensively later in the war by the US, was more accurate but that's a separate issue. My own use of the measuring tools in SH5 has not prevented me from hitting targets in excess of 6000 meters with around 80% accuracy - this includes one hydrophone only shot at 6300 where 2 out of a spread of 3 torpedoes found their target.

Getting a few mods really are needed but, as I said, that was true in earlier iterations of the game.

For the record, I played a full mission at 96% (I like to take screen shots), so that meant using the stadimeter, etc. I did about as well on that mission as I do using map update. For me, doing all of the stadimeter work is tedius and I figure if I were captain, my number one would perform that activity for me. I ultimately went back to map update.

Of course, each to his (or her) own. I've suggested at least half seriously that using 100% accuracy, doing all targeting in real time without pausing, and using a slide rule as an auxillary would give the player the ultimate immersive experience. To my knowledge, no one (including me) has ever attempted my "slide rule challenge".

Hi Paul, I do real time calculations without pausing and at 100% realism all the time....

I usually play mp maps and there is no way to increase or pause the time in the game.

I remember the discussions from the SH3 days. Some folks talked about "iron man" style play for campaigns. That involved never using time compression. Never seemed practical to me. I doubt anyone actually did it, of if they did I doubt they managed it for more than one patrol.

Of course, with multi-player, TC is not an option. I suppose a running wolfpack attack on a convoy over several days involves a number of sessions.

I was reading that Ubi have a lot of game testers, wonder how come not even 1 tested SH5.

Anyway, I still see no answer on how to play on 100% realism without mods. If so, prove it. Or post some alternative methods to identy a target speed and distance using the tools from the stock game. I find it absolutely impossible to do that without mods.
