Thread: Feature thoughts | Forums

Just wanted to see if our feature wantings was more help then helpless Thoughts ?

    1) More realistic AI messages from HQ (Submarine support heading to your area, stay put until Sub escort comes, Reply to confirm)

    2) Able to type in Captains Log Book and view it later (even after sinking in libarary?). To see how well you done when and what you wanted to remind yourself of to do better or to avoid.

    3) Being able to rig for red at any given time so none of your crew hints to the enemy your there and acts accordingly to the situation.

    4) For instant death for hitting the bottom of the sea you should have at least 5 min to repair the damage (if not hopeless damage) and then escape as if nothing happened.

    5) Characters would actaully walk around the submarine doing realistic stuff as repairing damaged equipement. Seeing the resting crew play games and ect. Also you should be able to roam the submarine freely with no restrictions since after all its your submarine, its your brand you car for example. You want to know more about it.

    6) Contacting other Submarines to come help you instead of ghost Submarines (I had one experience where I reported a ship (To HQ) and then 5 min later I found it sunk with a black sunken icon so I assumed a sub killed it). The submarines in a grid or 2 away would contact other subs(including you) for help.

    7) Ability to Rescue Survivers and use them as a meat shield so they wont fire on you How will this work tho? They enter your submarine or be towed in the back? Ah I know force them to keep the submarine running and bring them back to port with a ramp going to the submarine and survivers walk off. Maybe a friendly ship picks up the survivers at sea? All of the above?

    8) "Milk Cows" submarines or friendly boats since you can spend more time out in sea instead of going back and forth which would waste time Have a "scenerio" where you have to resupply other submarines.

    9) Weather Effects such as Ice and Snow. Ships being blocked by ice will be easy prey for you and you could kill them off like that. Snow building up on deck and on scenery will also enhance the feeling and give the game more value. Your crew wearing clothing for the apporpriate climate for snow and ect would be nice. Since U-Boats got those razors infront of the boat it should be no problem for the ice lol.

If you think the above is pointless then do you think my videos are good ?

edit: One more thing, Whats this Destroyer Command I heard about? Sorry haven't played Silent Hunter since summer because it wouldn't run properly on my computer since October and played other games.

1- I totally agree. The lack of depth in regards to the radio communications holds back a lot of potential for game immersion.

2- I see the need for this as well. But I've substituted this with a standard note pad I bought in a school supply section at a local store.

3- Although this may be true in real-life, I doubt that the A.I. crew is modeled to know when and where to make transient noises throughout the boat.

4- I see the need for death if you're running at full flank speed with full dive plane down and smash into a rock bed... but the repair scenario that you want is questionable.

5- That kind of programming is difficult to do, but it can be done. The only thing holding that idea back is the resources available to create a Silent Hunter title with those features. It would truly be a welcome addition.

6- This is something that was overlooked in the development of this game (in my opinion).

7- Realistic, yes... plausible in a game, not really. What would happen if you did rescue survivors? You only have enough rations to sustain your ships company for a certain amount of time. You would have to cut your patrol short and return with the POWs or transfer them to a surface ship.

8- If you're not aware of it, there is a mod that includes "Milk Cows" available here:
    http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005.html
But as far as what you described, then yes... it would be nice indeed.

    9. I see what you are intending. Don't know about the "U-boat razor" part but how can you target a trapped ship in ice if you can't poke your periscope though the ice yourself?

You brought up some good points. But unless the mod community bands together and creates their own version (without the same SHIII source code), we will be at the mercy of the standard gaming developers final product

Thought so and just wanted to see what other people think about peoples wantings in the wishlist thread Just wanted to see how useful the Ex-pack would be.

    10) Ability to fight on both sides of the war. Well we get stuck on the losing side of the war so what would it be like to command a British, Canadian, American, or any other Submarine?

    11) More submarine types such as a midget ones. Wouldn't go far but there was lots harassing the cost of Britian.

    12) More ship types. Well seeing certain ships gets boring after awhile if you play alot but having more should bring interesting ships. I'm aware of mods but seeing how effective the Ex-pack will be.

13)Call for air support to help cover your submarine between Enemy and allied lines.

    14) Having life forms such as whales and dolphins "escort" or swim around your submarine depending on where you are. Would add eye candy and life to the game and maybe have random events as getting shaken around by a whale while sitting in the water being resupplied by a milk cow ship.

    15) Putting people on shifts so you dont have to "baby" the crew everytime they refuse to change rooms to make the submarine move. Sometimes I have a crew memeber that wants to stay in a electric or a diesel room and have to move him manually.

    16) Having destroyer command. Havent heard of it until I mentioned Silent Hunter 3 on another forum I go to but actually contorling a Destroyer in Multiplayer should be fun.

    17) If hitting the right boats at the right time have the ability to change the tide of war and possibly win it. Have a meter showing how much you influenced war. Just a thought I had.

I would be ok if there were:
1)Fires happening in the sub, caused by an attack or by high hydrogen levels (batteries produce hydrogen)
2)Other ship and sub (human controled) types. It would be great if there were subs roamming the world from both sides (Yes I would like to sink an enemy sub while both submerged, so an option like "Fire torpedo to hydrophone contact" would just do the trick!)
3)Planted missions throughout the career (kind and difficulty of mission proportional to your reknown)
4)Wolpacks+Milkcows (generally closer communication with the BDU and allied ships/subs)
    5)Improved AI
6)The ability to change the course of war (so that all your effort isn't vain)
    7)Crew shifts

These features would be fine. I think that other features like that of people walking in the sub and doing stuff, would add a lot of drag to perfomance. Not everyone has monster pcs...

97 views lol and 3 replies. I guess nobody wants to hear their ideas be "negativly" commented on. Anyways how useful do you think the Silent Hunter 3 Ex-pack will be if they ask what we want?

    Ghostly..

Maybe the lack of replies is only because many already know that balancing a wishlist of practical vs real is a double-edged sword. Where do you draw the line that cuts off high end PC's and the run of the mill that many are able to run SH3 on currently? Sooner or later, technology will allow many items on your wishlist to happen. Many of the mods now available have enhanced the game towards that end already, the ones that havent, cant do so because of other limitations. This forum is littered with wishs, nothing wrong with that, and its a testament to the game that so many are still playing in spite of what we ALL wish it could be. I still get what I would call an acid flashback when I see some of the graphics on a patrol, in a place I have actually been in, it blows me away.

    Keep on wishing!
