Thread: Ubisoft, your PC media blackout is killing your games.... | Forums

  1. #1
Ubisoft, just in case you didn't know this, the lack of info regarding your PC titles is killing your PC sales. I did look at your sales from last year, and your sales from the Xbox and PC were neck and neck. So why would you want to anger your PC fans and do this?

I personally loved playing RvS and the old Ghost Recon. Now that the new versions of these games were going out, you have to crowbar and pry ANY info regarding the PC version of these games from UBI. I spent countless hours on the forums over at Ghostrecon.net reading all the same things that I'm reading here. I thought for sure that UBI would'nt make THIS same mistake again.

GRIN did a fantastic job with GRAW. As for R6 Vegas, the fact that you went back to the original company that did RvS, showed that you listened to the community after the Locktown flop.

I feel that the way UBI handled the media for GRAW PC killed the game for most people. I mean the info started flowing for GRAW about a couple of weeks before the release. But this whole approach about NOT answering ANY questions showed the whole community that this game wasn't important to Ubisoft. This whole approach killed the potentially great game GRAW, don't do the same for R6 Vegas.

So in closing, do us all a favor, tell the PC community that you want to lose half you your companys games sales and that your going to drop the PC game side of your company. Hurry up and do this quick because us loyal fans of Ubisoft want the truth. I think this is fair, don't ya think?

    Cheers!

Not that I disagree with the sentiment, Fresh...

But unfortunately I think R6 PC fans are an even smaller minority than we think at least in UBISoft's eyes because we are also part of the PC simulation ("tactical") sub genre as well.

Most R6 fans will cite fan sites for R6 like Aggression, numerous clan sites and even message boards on commercial sites like Gamespot, IGN, etc. to say we are a "huge" community...

But the truth is if we compare our community with other modern-day shooters like Halo, CS and BF2, we aren't as big as we may think and this is something UBISoft has known for sometime which gives them the confidence to not only move the direction of the franchise toward the larger, mainstream audiences who play Halo, CS, and BF2, but also to completely ignore the R6 PC fan base because we aren't perceived as being that big enough to generate enough sales to justify them actually caring about us.

I also think part of the problem is there is a misconception on UBISoft's part that thinks all die-hard R6 PC fans are hard nosed, 40Something computer geeks who are incapable of accepting any innovations brought into the series and don't want to do their part and allow UBISoft to develop a game that is both commercially successful and that will appeal to the die-hards as well.

This may true for some individual fans, but it is not indicative of a majority of fans... At least, not myself; I can't speak for others... But I believe this is another justification they use for ignoring us because in their mind we (as in a few individuals) have supposedly written them off, so who cares? In other words, UBISoft knows those few individuals will never buy the game, so why waste time and try and appease them when they can go for the masses who will buy the game regardless?

It is just logical business sense, but again, I believe it is a false perception that is perpetuated by a few vocal individuals (not here; on forums across the net UBISoft may read) and it IS hurting the larger community who just wants a good R6 game.

So, while the majority of blame lays squarely on UBISoft for neglecting the PC players...

I also feel the PC Community can sometimes shoot themselves in the foot by not being realistic enough and acknowledge the industry has changed since 1998, because this will effect any new versions of the game that are released now. In fact, it is why we are getting a port of a console title aimed at the casual gamer with little to no semblance of what the original 1998 games had and represented. It's a vicious cycle of Catch-22 that both parties are part of, but I think a lot of PC fans have had enough and just don't care any more if we are going to be blunt, so in essence, UBISoft wins.

It would have been a better decision to create Vegas with options to support both hard core and casual gamers. If the existing Vegas was the "casual" setting and there was also a "simulation" setting that had no TPV, gimping (location based damage model prefered), no healing, leaning, prone, partial/fluid door opening, etc...etc.. then they would increase sales dramatically. Many casual gamers would want to try out or graduate to the simulation setting and some hardcore players would play the casual settings when they just wanted to relax.

Maybe they will come out with an expansion called "Vegas, reloaded" with hardcore options...but I doubt it.

First of all let me start off by saying that I am 39 years old and I have been a gamer since PONG was in the arcade Enuff said. And I have been there since the original rainbow six, and have bought and played EVERY single rainbow six and ghost recon title and there expansion packs, ever released to date.

And the truth of the matter is that the only reason Ubisoft is making so many millions of dollars off there Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon CONSOLE titles is BECAUSE of us PC GAMERS, PERIOD, END OF STORY. Us pc gamers who have spent countless thousands of hours, playing there RS, GR, and RVS titles. Is the only reason there even is a CONSOLE market today.

The fact that Ubisoft started making the rainbow games for consoles first, instead of vice versa like it use to be was a BIG SLAP in the face. And that was bad enough. But now they have the absolute gaul to ignore us on the forums, and pretend like we dont exist anymore. Well let me just come to the original point. There are still thousands of PC Gamers playing RavenShield online, and the game is nearly 4 YEARS OLD. Now if that doesnt speak volumes to Ubisoft I dont know what will. The fact that thousands of people are still playing there 4 year old game online, and still new people are discovering it to this day. I think that speaks for itself, but maybe thats just me.

Also I DO NOT hate Ubisoft AT ALL, in fact the oposite is true. I will forever be in there debt, for even making games like RS, GR, RVS. In fact I still play RVS, and will continue until something better comes along.

It is definately agreed that Ubisoft makes great FPS games. We're all die-hard GR and R6 fans I'm sure. The communication/media has stopped and it's this point that's killing us here. We've become 2nd place all of the sudden. It personally broke my heart on how poorly they handled the GRAW media flow; and now the "zero media" for Vegas has got me stunned, hence forth is the reason why I started this post. I feel particularly sorry for UBIrazz who is the middle man here.

If history serves well here, the media flow should start about 2-3 weeks prior to game release......which should mean any thime now..

All were asking for here is wooing us like we're first time visitors here and we're LOOKING into buying your product. Lets face it, if someone were to go to the offical "Vegas" page, they would be confused rather quickly regarding PC coverage with just a couple of weeks to go until the "supposed" release.

So come on Ubisoft.....let the info flow....

    Cheers!

You've already gotten a steady stream of media for the PC version of the game -- just look at all the Xbox 360 stuff, because it's going to be the same damned game anyway.

All I have to say,"Atari made the same mistake after being bought by Warner Bros in the 80's". Loading the Market with Carbon copies will not sustain anyone, but it might keep you afloat bit longer. Here's some practical advice UBI, purchase some landfill real estate.

you can tell which platform they care about most easy..just go to the console forum and see how many questions get answered over there by devs and such.. TONS.. and we barely get any attention at all..
