Chargers still giving up kick returns , but the D showed up bigtime in the second half and just absolutely choked Adrian Peterson and Donovan McNabb out!

If the receivers and Rivers stay healthy, we are going to make some noise--especially since the noise coming out of Arrowhead was a big wet splat...

    cheers

I am shocked and saddened. There is much to discuss:

The Steelers, Colts and Chiefs got slapped around pretty thoroughly. It's good to see the Bills rising up again. On the other hand, how can anyone with Ohio ties ever be pleased to see Art Modell's franchise prosper?

Brady lit up the Dolphins for over 500 yards; I am so looking forward to seeing if he and Rivers can combine for over a thousand passing yards in a single game next Sunday, although I imagine Quention Jammer and Antoine Cason (SD's corners) are more inclined to pray that his arm is really tired.

Romo choked again and in the process, made Mark Sanchez look good.

Janokowski kicked a 63 yard field goal, but does kicking it at Denver's 5000+ foot altitude earn him an asterisk? The original 63 yard record setting kick was made in a dome at sea level by a guy with only half a right foot and Alex Karras coming at him. And he wasn't a soccer style kicker...

Still, I am glad I saw both of them on live TV.

What about the--excuse me, I meant da--Bears? Are the Falcons suddenly that bad, or is the Bears' defense that good?

Looking forward to their games with the Packers?

    cheers

Instead of starting a new thread, I will add something on the college level. I am not a big football fan but Notre Dame really let me down the other night (I have family from there).
In the last minute they were going to lose when Michigan scored a touchdown. Then ND made a miraculous touchdown in the time remaining only to allow Michigan to score yet another touchdown with only 2 seconds on the clock. Three touchdowns in a minute? I went from elation to utter disappointment.

Big Blue lost.. consolation.. they lost to the Skins.. which is for me the only acceptible loss.. (From NY.. but live in DC area so.. The only time I root against the Skins is if they play the Giants.. or Steelers.. )

Steelers got their butts handed to them by The Ravrens .. so I caught it on all fronts areound here..

    The bright spot?

Cowboys go shocked by the Jets.. I am more of an ABD (Anybody But Dallas) fan than a Jets fan.. but the fact that it was the Jets doesnt hurt either.

Why is anyone 'shocked' by a Dallas loss any more? They've been playing below their potential ever since Aikman retired, particularly in the post season. Romo has terrific physical skills, but I have to wonder about his leadership and heart, which seem to falter the moment the pressure is on.

Anyone want to venture a guess about Peyton Manning's return? It looks to me as though all the air went out of the Colts when he announced that he wasn't able to play, and if he doesn't get back before midseason, they are going to be major contenders for the Andrew Luck pick (which leads to questions about the morality of one team hogging the All-World quarterback picks).

I have always been a Colts un-fan (even more so since the organization's disgraceful exit from Baltimore), but you have to give Manning his due; he is a classic throwback to the days when the quarterback was also the offensive coordinator and called all the plays. Plus he makes a pretty funny commercial from time to time. He'll go into the Hall of Fame right next to Unitas and Starr on the first ballot and be able to stick his tongue out at Tom (the first coach to take the playcalling away from his qbs) Landry's bust.

    cheers

Giants were kicking butt, I went outside to do some stuff, came back in, and suddenly Rex Grossman's a real QB again?

Dallas flail had me LMAO. Look out Tony! He's hiking the ball! Kinda made up for G-Men flail.

Now that P. Manning has lost his chance to break Favre's consecutive starts record, he probably won't play through injuries nearly as much. Look for him at mid-season. Colts are gonna have a bad year.

Chargers always look impressive, but this time they followed through and finished the game.

Raiders looked pretty good too, though.

Grossman's one of those guys who every so often just plays way over his head, which always intrigues the coach who thinks that if he could only get him to do that consistently, we could win a championship...I'd look for the Redskins to settle down to just slightly better than mediocre over the course of the year.

As for my Chargers, I can only say that if you saw the game, you saw a very different defensive team step out onto the field in the second half. They brutalized the Vikings on both sides of the ball in the third and fourth quarters (which is generally agreed to be the best time to do it). McNabb looked kind of lost out there, which means that either the Chargers' D backs were very very good, or that Mike Shanahan was right (and I would hate that, 'cause I think Shanahan's a t**d with legs).

Given that they manhandled the Patriots here last year, only to have the special teams give the game away, I think the game in Foxborough tomorrow will probably be closer than most folks expect. Seriously, with these two quarterbacks, a combined thousand yards passing is not out of the question.

Yes the Raiders looked good, but look who they looked good against.

    cheers
