Thread: AI aircraft will not bomb from designated alt..WHY! | Forums

ive tried this in the editor with a myriad of different settings.. and the result is the same..

to test I set up a B52 with the tast of bombing a coord with a string of MK82s (interior bombay only)

i start it at 30K and have the attack waypoint set at 30k.. it flies from start to that waypoint at 30k but then immediatly begins to dive and open its bombay doors.. it finally levels off at 3k and drops on the target..

iv tried setting the target farther and closer to the attack waypoint.. no effect..

what is the deal here?.. all the planes (AI) seem to do it.

Try setting a Hold Altitude waypoint prior to the Attack waypoint. That hopefully will make it stay at 30,000 ft Also make sure your attack waypoint is a good distance away from the target so the aircraft can line up with the target, I'd suggest 10nm away?

    well that fixed it,

    now.. another Q:

how do you get a group of bombers to fly in formation and bomb.. insted of just in a straight line?

As you have discovered, the larger aircraft will only fly in individual flights ie you cant add more jets to an individual flight by using the PILOT <> button. That only works with the smaller jets.
If you want large aircraft to fly in a formation like you mentioned I think the only way is to make an individual route for each aircraft alongside each other.

Quite tedious to do I'm afraid...
