Thread: C02 Killed my crew on the surface | Forums

  1. #1
I just got back into SHIV after a long hiatus from one of my favorite games.

First patrol out, very successful, but then after a depth charging, when my Baleo-class sub surfaced, I noticed a problem.

The C02 meter didn't go down. I turned for home (Pearl Harbor). Along the way I dived and surfaced again several times, called the crew to battle stations and then switched that off again. I tried everything I could think of but the C02 level climbed until it eventually reached 100%.

I was hoping it was a glitch that wouldn't kill my crew, but would just cause that meter to be stuck. But it did in fact kill my crew, on the surface, while racing for home port.

I was playing TM 2.1. Anybody else seen this problem? Any recommendations on something to try as a fix?

The fix I use for TMOwTw (V1.7) is to save the game (by hitting ESC) and then load the save right back up. I don't even exit to the main menu, just save then load it right back up while in the same patrol. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it might work with TMO2.1 but I'm not totally sure. It's worth a shot anyways.

Just be sure when you're saving that you try not to save around a bunch of ships as this will lower the chance of the save file becoming corrupted. If I'm coming off of an attack with the CO2 bug I will always try to get as far away from the other ships as the CO2 levels will allow before saving.

Yep, it's a known bug. The way around it is to save, exit, then reload.

Also avoid alt tabbing. It causes the issue 90% of the time i find.

On the occasions I experience these types of bugs is when I pause the game, minimize it to check out E-mail or the forum or what not. Now if I don't pause it, and minmize, it's no problem. Every time I've paused it and minimize,I'll get the CO2 issue, or when I save and reload that save, it's corrupt. So now if I want to not leave the game, but check out something on the internet, I'll just dive to 200 ft., all stop and minimize without pausing.

When the high CO2 flag sets it should also activate a small icon at the top right of the screen that indicates the condition. Left clicking this icon will order the boat to surface and replenish the air.
If it doesn't, the only remedy is the one previously mentioned... save & reload.

This is very true. Also causes the wind bug, where you alt-tab out of the game on the surface when the wind SFX is playing, and thereafter it's heard continuously on any screen in any weather. Until you reload, that is.

Not seen too many complaints of the wind bug, but it's caught me numerous times.
