Everyone is probably gonna throw things at me but... US subs dont have hydraphones? I cant seem to find the bloody things.

Do you mean the model of them? They're up near the bow, under the keel. (Unlike germany's boats, which had it on the deck I think?)

If you mean the sonar station, that can be accessed via the sonar button from the bottom menu or by pressing F8. You must be at periscope depth (~17m) for it to function. The Home and End keys turn the vector of the sonar.

Is that a bug regarding the periscope depth fro the use of hyrdaphones or did all US subs have to be at periscope depth to use hydraphones?

That doesn't make sense, since hydraphones are only passive listening devices. You should be able to use them at any depth.

It depends where they're mounted. If the mounting point is above the waterline then they're useless, which is why, for example, U-boats couldn't use them when surfaced because they were on the deck. I'm not sure where the US boats mounted theirs.

I have just done the training mission for now but if you look outside of the sub you see the hydrophones are mounted on top-left of the sub

I goes around even when you're in surface

But it will only work once submerged since it's on the upper of the sub. You can see it...

Sorry Kagilbou but what you're looking at there is the radar. The hydraphones are underneath the boat, they're two little round objects. In real life they could be lowered on cables and used while on the surface, as long as the boat was moving slow enough (<10knots)

There is no option to do that in SH4, however. It is not really a bug, and more of just a (bad) design decision. Although, I have to admit, when I'm surfaced, I usually travel at 2/3 speed, which is 12 knots, so I wouldnt be able to use them surfaced anyhow.
