Thread: Frame Rate Problems | Forums

I have a decent PC but for some reason I am getting frame rates from 10-25 per second. I have everything except Heat Blur on max and am running at a resolution of 1280x1024, and I don't have any AA or AF enable in ATI's Catalyst Control. Here are my PC specs:

    AMD X2 4800+
    4GB RAM
    500GB Hard Drive
    ATI 3870 with 512MB
    Creative X-Fi
Windows XP Pro SP3 and Vista Ultimate SP1 (64-Bit)

Shouldn't I be getting over 60 FPS? I just formatted my drive and have all of the latest drivers install, and I have tried both XP and Vista but it does not seem to make a difference. I can play Battlefield 2 and COD4 with everything maxed and have no problems, so what is causing this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Lockon is nothing like those other games you listed. It is very CPU demanding. In the early days in 2003 when Lockon was first released people were restricted by the power of CPU's and graphics cards. Nowadays with very powerful graphic cards, it seems to be CPU that is the remaining restriction.

The Lockon designers deliberately aimed Lockon at future systems by making many things as settings in the OPTIONS. No-one owned a system back then that could run everything maxed out. Also back then there were no dual or quad cores, so the code was not written to take advantage of dual or quads. I would hazard a guess that it is only now that cutting edge systems are capable of running it maxed out.

I would suggest a number of things.

Water - unless you are into naval engagements and plan to do a lot of flying over the ocean, turn it way down. It is a big hit on FPS whether you are over the ocean or not (the water runs under the land too for various programming reasons so affects you wherever you are on the map). There are various Mods that try to make the LOW water look a bit better.

Mirrors - Think about whether you really need mirrors on or not. Even with them switched permanently off in the OPTIONS, you can still always press N or M during flight and the mirrors will temporarily pop into place.

Shadows - most folks have this set to active planar. Actual units (planes, vehicles, ships) will cast a shadow, but other things wont (trees, buildings).

Once you have a better FPS, then try adding in some AA and AF to make things look nicer. I suspect it wont affect your FPS much.

Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

Thanks for the info. I set the water from Very High to High and I am now getting between 40 and 100FPS. I just did not think it was the water because I was having problems with my frame rate even when I was over land and there wasn't any water.

I have another question. How do you apply AA and AF in Lock-On? I don't see a setting in the game and when I try and force it in the ATI Control Center, it does not make a difference. Is there some tool or patch that I need?

    Thanks again.

I think that LockON renders water over the whole area, ie water is drawn under the ground. So you will get same fps anywhere.

I have an ati x300 and I can get AA to work from the control center, not sure about AF.
