Thread: Why Heroes VI should not CHANGE to far from Heroes V | Forums

  1. #1
ok so i dont have alot to say about this particular subject but im hoping fans of HHOMMV will help out here ok so first of all if they change it too much like they did with the unmentional HHOMM IV it will ruin the series and no one will want to play it. second i liked heroes V all of Heroes V the gameplay was even it was more about straddegy then piling troops and going in guns blazing the storyline linked together smoothly and had twists that were exciting though i have to admit they did make the end rediculously hard for every game ummm i liked that the PC would actually do intelligent moves rather then simply attacing your most useless unit. ummm im out of things to say but still PLEASE PLEASE TRY keep it the same

I agree. All the heroes game had their charm for various reasons but the gameplay, interface and graphics( obviously ) were the most concise and balanced overall. I don't think you have to worry too much, from the screens posted so far it looks very much like HOMM5, expecially in the battle screen ( which is awesome ).

On this page you can see game screenshots

I agree that it is the most concise and balanced overall but...

The story was pitiful and the AI wasn't really that great except for the campaign maps being made to be horribly unbalanced and the AI receiving a painfully obvious resource boost. Finally, it lacked variety. You had 3 racial teams with most of its rooster occupied by their race (not counting humans, mind you) leaving awesome monsters out.

In terms of polish, I hope it is similar to Heroes V (although the voice-acting and story could have used some more polish). In terms of gameplay, I hope they try a lot of new ideas. I really like that they are trying out new creature and resource systems. If I want to play a game like Heroes V, I'll play Heroes V. Heroes VI should have features that differentiate it from Heroes V. Heroes IV was an unfinished game, but I really liked that they tried a lot of new ideas. Some of those ideas, like caravans, ended up in Heroes V (at least in the expansions).

I would fully expect to see exactly this. New innovations while maintaining the essence of H5. In terms of storyline/campaign...they're going to be restricted on what they can and can't do simply because it has to END in a specific way. Remember, this is a prequel to H5, so the end of the campaigns should set up the beginning to H5...meaning all the factions that were in H5 should be either in the game or coming to fruition.

I think Heroes V may be the best. Just because it's simply more advanced and improved. I don't see why VI should be any different.

I'm wondering if they're going to have ideas like secondary creature upgrades eg. Skeleton warriors, foul hydra etc. and caravans.

The first tier units seem too overpowerful. In Heroes III the 7th level creature was usually in a league of it's own but in Heroes V it gradually went up. Two 6 tier creatures could defeat one 7 tier. The 1 tier units seem better suited for 3 or 4 tiers. Inferno's first creature is a hell hound. What about Imps or gogs? I think they may be making the creatures big and strong for no reason.

Or they're trying to stop you from dumping your weakest unit at the first viable replacement.

Personally, I find it more interesting than gradually growing on 7 tiers, that made a range far too wide of power (if you compare to Heroes 1-2 Tier 6 was not that far ahead of tiers 1-5 with 2 exceptions).

And I think we've got too few tiers now, I'd like to see it become 2-2-2-1 (slot 'Base' in below 'Core').

    Just thinking.
But the tier system seems to modeled after the Warhammer tabletop gaming system. The names Core, Elite and Champion seem to be distinctions in role rather than overall power.

while the champion unit is obviously more powerful one to one with a core unit or elite unit, but it's function may be more geared towards a different role on the battle field other than mass destruction, which seemed to be the ultimate function of the top tier units in other HoMM. So the so called top tier units might be effective as lets say maintenance creatures (healers, resurrectors and buffers) but not as effective in dealing massive amounts of damage.

the core seems to be just that, the core of the army, serving as the main bulk and meat of the army. The elites as specialists, designed to take on certain unique situations (The Juggernaut for example seems like it is particularly suited to sieges, but may be too slow for effective field battle), and the champion providing a boost to the army through unique abilities.

I think the design as it stands is great so long as the champion creatures are not outclassing the core units unrealistically.

Much like Titans far outclassed Gremlins/Halflings?

Yes, something different would be nice.
