Thread: rudder woes | Forums

So after wandering off from il2 some time after pacific fighters was released I've just bought '46 with the best intentions of getting back into the sky while this series still has legs.

Unfortunately I'm having a problem with my rudder controls, it's constantly trimmed slightly off centre. I've tried it with both my joysticks disconnected just in case it was their inputs causing it but the problem persists. I think this is a problem I've imported from my old il2 set up after i copied some of the .ini files across to replicate my controls set up.

Heres the joystick entry in my conf.ini if its any use.

A bit of info like what make and model of Rudder pedals you are using could be helpful and why do you think the rudder is not recentering.

Go into control panel, pick up the pedals and look if they are centering and not spiking in the calibration utility.

If they center correctly it is your flying that is the problem not the pedals. Torque reaction of the motor will pull you to one side on most planes. You must bind keys in controls to trim your rudder to compensate or put a slider/rotary on rudder trim in the hotas section of controls.

Alternatively if in control panel shows bad centring and they are CH pedals check that the toe brakes still work. If the wire to toe brakes breaks it overloads the main rudder pot which goes out of true. If so dismantle solder/replace wire and everything works again.

Right that will keep u too busy to be woefull!

The FM has changed a bit since you have been gone. You will notice that your throttle position will affect your rudder trim setting(s). So as your speed changes, so does the need to continually keep the rudder trimmed.

I suspect this might be it alright. Have reinstalled from scratch and im still finding the rudder trimmed just off centre as soon as i run a Quick mission. back to flight school so

You will also find that for most aircraft there is a cruise throttle setting at whicht the rudder trim is centred once the speed has settled and you're flying level. This speed is particularly useful to know for aircraft that don't have rudder trim (most of the German single engine fighters for a start).
