i installed the game and updated but when i start it always says new updates found and installed do you want to run it now, and when i run it it says it cannot install and then freezes, if i click do not run it does but when i start to launch a mission in campaign then it comes up gr8 except i cannot see the city, i see all the stuff around it like the minimap etc but not the city itself i can see the building names but the dissappear and then reappear,

oh and i have uninstalled like 5 times

any help would be awsome

ok so i fixed the update part that is no longer happening but i still cant see the village when i start the mission, i can see the hero in the botom left hand corner, oh and the building names appear every now and again and so do the deer if thats any help but everything else i cant see

What are your exact System specs ? Can you post a DXDIAG ?

For Windows XP:

1: Click on Start Menu (Start Button)
2: Click on "Run" on the right hand side.
3: Type "dxdiag" (minus quotes) in the dialogue box that appears.
4: Hit "Ok" or press enter.
5: Wait for the progress bar, bottom left, to complete.
6: Click on "Save All Information" and then save it to a text file in a location of your choosing.
7: Open the text file that you just created, select all ([CTRL]+[A]), copy ([CTRL]+ [C]) and then paste it ([CTRL]+[V]) in your forum message.

For Windows Vista/7:

1: Type "dxdiag" (minus quotes) in the search box that is above the Start Button
2: Follow steps 4 - 7 above.


Have you updated ALL your System drivers ?? Do you have the RETAIL version, or you downloaded this Game via STEAM ??

im not on my comp atm so i cant do the dxdiag but i got my comp recently so i dont think my drivers need updating, ill do a scan when i get back, oh and i have the retail version of the game, its weird how the game works fine except from the big black box where the city should be.

That problem is often caused by video card drivers, or an unsupported video chip, it's most common with Intel video chips, as they're not really intended for gaming use.

We'll be able to find out a bit more when you can post the dxdiag.

Your dxdiag shows you have the 965 chipset, and this was one of the first of the Intel video chips to have the hardware shaders that 3D games rely on these days, previous chipsets just used software emulation of them with limited degrees of success.

It's not as good as a dedicated video card for games, but with that chipset, you can get the 3D aspects of the game to display, by selecting the minimum graphics settings, and using a low screen resolution, doing this has proved successful for users with a laptop that uses the Intel Integrated Graphics Processor.

Can you tell me how to change the settings as you have suggested. I'm not much of a whizz kid with computers but I can follow instructions...!

When you start the game, go into the "Options Screen and the select "Video", basically, what you need to do is to move all the sliders to the left, which is the lowest setting, , you can also select a low screen resolution there too, the box for that is on the top left side of the screen, just make sure you select a screen resolution your computer can display, or you may find you get a messed up game display.

Once you get the 3D parts of the game to display, you might be able to increase the settings again, a little at a time, until you find a good balance between visual/performance, if the 3D stops working, just back off the last setting changes slightly.
