Thread: Just finished(?) Uru - To D'ni | Forums

    Well, I made it.

First, I have to admit that I walked through parts of it, particularly Eder Gira/Eder Kemo (I'm glad I did in those cases - positively maddening), although I figured out the steam vent puzzle in Eder Gira on my own. Kadish Tolesa was fascinating, although walking the pipe to the journey door nearly gave me a coronary, the realism was so convincing. I had to remind myself that I'd simply wind up back at Relto. In Teledahn, the one lever at the heart of the generator that sticks really had me going until the fact that it isn't mentioned in the walkthrough made me realize it was a red herring.

D'ni itself, while interesting, is a vast and terribly lonely place. Now I really wish I would have had the opportunity to get online. While there aren't any people in the other ages, there are, at least hinted at, other life forms. In D'ni, there is nothing. It's very desolate. Although, I think Bevin is the more desirable neighborhood. It seems more "alive" than Kirel does. While we're on the subject of Bevin, has anyone noticed that, while walking along the walkway above the light garden, upon approaching the plaza in front of the classroom, a metallic sound is heard, sort of like something was kicked and rolls forward? I look down, but I see nothing.

Anyway, I noticed a couple of strange things that the walkthrough mentioned, but I did not see. On Relto, supposedly one can customize the roof of the hut after getting the roof page. I've yet to figure out how. The tree growth thing was mentioned elsewhere, so I'll try fooling with the clock to see if that helps. One of my logs rolled off Relto; I hope that doesn't matter. Speaking of the logs, anyone have any ideas as to why they're there? I thought perhaps they were for starting a fire, but there's nothing to start a fire with.

Other than Relto, the Bevin book is supposed to contain a link to the balcony view of the neighborhood. Mine does not. Luckily for me, I found enough markers in Ae'gura for calibrating the Great Zero that I didn't need to get to that one. I can only surmise that because I didn't play through "Ages Beyond Myst" prior to installing the expansion pack, this link becomes considered superfluous, so it is removed in "To D'ni."

At the end of "Ages," one is supposed to click on the Uru book (I couldn't tell if that meant the Relto book or the book to the cleft - again, this is the walkthrough talking) and the credits would roll. As I didn't know quite which book to click on, I used both, but neither elicited the expected response. I am attributing this also to the fact that the expansion pack was installed prior to finishing "Ages." At the end of the entire game (falling into the Shaft) though, there is still what is best termed an open ending - no credits, just the message indicating that maybe the end has yet to be written. I guess that's the end? I'm just really confused because I'm not certain if the game is actually over. Granted, I've yet to get the Path of the Shell expansion pack.

    Any insights are appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Doctor, and welcome to the fora. I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Yep, that pipe thing is scary if you have any tendency to vertigo. There is another way to the journey door - if you walk back down to the ledge where you emerge from the pillar room, you can do a step jump down to the journey door.

I think you'll find you've kicked a firemarble - look around for some glowing lights on the ground. It may have rolled down the steps.

It took me a while to figure out how the roof page was changing it. Turn the page off and come back to Relto. Go outside and look at the roof. You'll see that it's something like leather or canvas stretched over, with some rips and tears. Link out, and turn the page back on, then link back. The roof is now thatched.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Speaking of the logs, anyone have any ideas as to why they're there? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

They're just for fun - I find them to be something of a nuisance, so I always turn that page off.

No, that link should still be there - have you checked all the ages of ABM for all the Bahro stones? They can be a bit tricky to find.

When you have only ABM installed and you get to the endgame, and climb out of the cleft, you'll see Bahro entering the volcano - the credits will then roll. If you have To D'ni installed at the same time, you won't get the credits but a screen saying "Perhaps the ending has not been written" with the hand symbol. At the end of To D'ni, you'll get the same screen but with an arch symbol instead. I don't know anything about clicking on a book to get the end credits. I do know that you won't have heard the Peter Gabriel song that plays over the credits if To D'ni is installed before you finish ABM because it isn't installed. I had to install ABM separately to find the track, then install To D'ni.

    Hope that helps.

    HI Cathyk and The FourthDoctor,

I have a little surprise for you. Sometime ago, Marae, me and a few others had a good discussion about the Kadish "pipe or wire walk" and just a few days ago, I did install Uru CC Fly Mode and went near the vault to have a close look and surprise....no wires, no pipes. I will let you guess what they are. Only remember what Kadish is all about !!!!

Well, add PotS to this thread now. I just finished playing that. So that means I'm done. I guess that's it for me as far as Uru goes, unless the live portion ever happens again. Of course, if I want a lesson in D'ni history, I could go back to the city and read all those books about the D'ni kings.

I did in fact find the link to the neighborhood balcony. It was in a place in Gahreesen that I had missed.

Thanks for the help, cathyk and nanoukmetal. Perhaps we might get lucky and all one day meet in D'ni. For now, I suspect it's time to turn my attention to Myst IV and V, as soon as the chance presents itself.

Nice meeting you TheFourthDoctor and get ready for a big ride with Myst lV.

Anyone who has finished Uru Complete Chronicles can now say he is an above average Real Adventure player.

Until Uru is still going strong. None of us knows why Cyan took the UU key purchase page down at Kagi.com last month... but, we've been told that we should expect some information before the end of November.

I expect we'll be able to meet you In-Cavern yet. Stay tuned...
