Congratulations oonska. The day I gained my DL, I borrowed my parent's car for my first drive unsupervised, and the accelerator stuck! Not the best unsupervised driving experience, I must say.

I got my DL on my 16th birthday. Nothing of note happened ... except for President Richard Nixon resigning due to his involvement in the Watergate scandal and coverup. OK, you're right, I'm ancient, but it was only 1974.

My son is about to get his permit. Now that's scary.

Back home for me, you don't get your permit until you're 16 and after you take a driver's ed class. You have the permit for 6 months, and then you have the driving test. If you pass, you're on a year and a half temporary license, meaning you have restrictions on when you can drive (not past 1am) and how many people can be in the car (no more than 1 passenger). And when you're 18, you get a full license.
Funny, I never followed the passenger restriction... opps. Bad mod!

Note to self: get out helmet from when CK got his driver's license and start wearing it when going to class.

    Congrats Oonska!!

Many here in Holland will envy you. Here you can't drive before getting 18 years old. You even can't start lessons before that time. No temporary license either.

Out where I am you can get a learner's permit at 15 and a license at 16, but since I was away at school I didn't get mine until I was 18.
For me, it was the motorcycle driving test that was the bugger. I flunked that twice before I finally qualified. You have to drive it around a 10 foot diameter circle three times in each direction without putting your foot down. It's harder than it looks.

    I forgot it all.
