    Hello ...

I am starting the mod BiA:Blitzkrieg May 1940.

It will at first be focused on the German invasion
of the Netherlands. If people want to join to
make maps for Belgium and France, you will be
    welcome too.

We have a Dutch forum with renders of models
under construction, but the site will be extended with
English content in the months to follow.

    http://forum.mei1940.com

Maybe this weekend, I will make a start with
    a BiA website at http://blitzkrieg.mei1940.com

A few facts about May 1940.

The Germans tried to advanced on three fronts in the Netherlands.

In the far North, they were blocked for five days (May 10-15) at a **** which crosses a lake from the provinces of Friesland to North-Holland (Amsterdam).

In the center, north of the Rhine rivers, they were blocked for three days along the Grebbe defence line.

It was not until Leningrad that any German army was stopped for three days!

In the south, the Dutch could stop them for one day (as planned), but afterwards the entire southern defence was in choas, and the arrived French tank units didn't want to fight.

German paratroopers (Fallschirmjagers) landed around the government city of the Hague, an airfield south-west of Rotterdam, and took the important "Moerdijk"-bridge, which connects the south to Rotterdam.

The regular Dutch army was mainly located along the Grebbe line and in the South. Recrutes were trained in the west of the country. The recruites were able to capture and destroy most of the ELITE paratroopers around the Hague! And the German plans to capture the government totally failed.

Besides that, the Germans lost about 2/3 of their transport fleet. The lost of the paratroopers and their transports was the main reason they couldn't invade England in 1940.

German tanks advanced through the south, and reached the Moerdijk-bridge. The French could have taken the bridge for three days, but they were too chicken (or however you can explain this). The Dutch government was too cheap to buy tanks before the war. If this bridge was taken, the Germans could have been stopped on all fronts leading to the provinces of Holland (Amsterdam, the Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht). With great destruction, Holland could have been a bastion (surrounded by water) on mainland of Europe for a long time, if the British had moved their troops in after Dunkirk.

But the Moerdijk-bridge was taken, Rotterdam was bombed, the French fled south, and the Brits had no plans to send troops to Holland. After five long days, and a far inferior equiped army, it was simply not sensible anymore to continue fighting.

However, what the Belgians did during the first month of 1914, the Dutch did during May days of 1940: they made sure the Germans couldn't celebrate a total victory ! England was still alive, so was the Dutch Queen in
London, and the Germans' main tool to invade England, their air fleet and paratroopers, was (greatly) destroyed.

2332 Dutch soldiers died in 5 days out of a 100.000 men army. The Brits and Canadians lost the same number in 16 days after D-Day, the Americans 3000 in the same 16 days. Imagine, the D-Day armies had more than 10 x the number of troops !

Many Dutch believe that their army hardly fought a battle. Hopefully my project, and this game, will teach some of them (and the world) different.

This idea really makes me wanna jump for joy!

I have played the game "Worldwar 2 online" for three years.
It's a multi simulator game based on the blitzkrieg in Western Europe in 1940 so I'm really into this time in history.

I would love to see such a mod come true.

As a matter fact there's no part of the big war I would rather see as a Brothers in arms mod.

The dutch were traitors and (verraders) as you call it in dutch, everyone nows that.

They would sing just like a stool pidgeon when they were interogated, the germnas would ask them were are the other (dutch) soldiers hiding and they would tell them.

Here is example of a fellow Arubian his name was Boy Ecury, he went to Holland for educational reason when suddenly the war broke out. He served for Holland and that wasn't even his country.

Then in 1944 he was captured by the germans and they asked him were are the other soldiers hiding and he replied "In the huis van mijn vader is er geen plaats voor verraders"
Meaning "In the house of my father there is no place for traitors. And he was shot by the germans and died right there.

Men like this are the real heroes, Im not saying all dutch were cowards but alot were.
    Rest in Pease Boy Ecury.
