Did you see your sub in the end pic?

Did you by chance hit land?

One thing you might want to consider is customizing your time compression setting so that you drop down to x1 under potentially catastrophic circumstances.

Edit file My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg with any text editor. A few lines down is the TIME COMPRESSION section. Here are my settings:

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=64
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=1
Particles=8
PrayState=8
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024

Hey Avon.

Have seen loads on forums re changing settings in cfg file but didn't know how to get into them. What's this "any text editor" of what you speak? Could it be the answer to my dreams? (An ignorant Englishman)

Patch 3... It may not be the beginning of the end, but it maybe the end of the beginning.....

You can use the text editor of windows for example, or wordpad, or a hexeditor or etc.

Me too:
At least Twice I have been returning to port,
With the last Navpoint set 2+ Kms away from the port - SO usually you will stop there...
But the game glitched and I ended up hitting the dock at 20k,
You sometimes get a pic of your sub 1/2 perched on to the docks... makes a mess of the triumphant return - Uboat destroyed by collision

And It's not some hidden Island or submerged reef....

Today after an OK patrol, I fortunately saved the game...
The Collision thing happend 3 times in a row..
It seems on Time Compression that the game 'stutters' sometimes.. This stutter was coincidentally happening about 50 K or so from the mouth of the Lorient Inlet.
Sometimes you could see the little marker for your sub zoom / speed way past a waypoint and momentarily flash inland - like some sort of hover vehicle before 'Uboat Destroyed By Collision'

This mostly happened to me before going in to St Nazaire... and so I would hit the dock there.

sometimes small points of land are not visable when you're zoomed out on the map. be sure to zoom in when your track takes you over light blue water.

Oh, and yes, you can edit those file to be safe(er). When you click on it, it will ask how you want to open it. Just select notepad/wordpad, or I think any word processor like MS word

You need to be within 30 kilometers of your base to receive the RETURN TO BASE patrol end option and its renown value. You do not need to actually dock back at the port.

If you still want to, do as Supr said.
