Yeah, sure: Copy Il-2 FB onto another partition, or copy and rename Il-2old. Then upgrade the original Il-2 FB folder. Don't know why you'd want to do that, though. AEP is just what it says: an expansion of Il-2 FB.

    Hi V.C.Charlie!
Do this first. Install the Ace Expansion Pack over V1.0.
Then open your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder.
    Click Tools, Folder Options,
View. Then bullet-Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck-Hide extensions for known
    file types, and click OK.

Then create a new folder inside your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder.
    Call it AEP
Copy these now existing AEP files into your new folder:

    files.SFS

    mg_snd.dll

    Next make a .bat file.
To do this you must first create a New Text Document by right clicking in the white
area inside your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder, select New, Text Document.
Left double click to open it.
Copy exactly the 2 lines of text below into your new document.

    echo Y
    copy AEP\*.* .

Then go to file, save, and exit.
Rename the New Text Document.txt to AEP.bat
Locate your newly created AEP.bat file, right click and create shortcut.
    Place it on your desktop.

Next create another new folder inside your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder.
    Call it 1.22
Download and unzip the "1.22 patch" files into this new folder: You can find it here: http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...ted=1074545228

You should now see files.SFS, mg_snd.dll and a word doc (you can delete the word doc) in this 1.22 file folder.

    Next make another .bat file.
Copy exactly the 2 lines of text below into your new document.

    echo Y
    copy 1.22\*.* .

Then go to file, save, and exit.
Rename the New Text Document.txt to 122.bat
Locate your newly created 122.bat file, right click and create shortcut.
    Place it on your desktop.

By clicking on these desktop shortcuts you change the version. Then you can start the game as you would normally!
If you have any more questions email me at whurst1@bellsouth.net and we can set up a time to talk on TeamSpeak.

This sounds good, but I can't believe it works!!? There are so many more new files installed with AEP than the two you are copying. Are all the possible conflicts taken care of because of hardwired limitations within the 1.22 'files.SFS' file?

Eg. When running your hybrid 1.22, can you see the new planes listed (if so what happens if you try to fly them?)? Does the AEP DGen work with 1.22 for campaigns? Is there an 'online campaign' choice in multiplayer when using 1.22 (and if so, can it be chosen?)? How does 1.22 handle the new AEP map files and the new AEP objects?

At the moment I have two seperate folders for each version and just change the folder name. Your method would free up some disk space and I would like to try it, but there seem to be so many possible conflicts that I remain hesitant!

Hi Antifreeze! Yes, you could put each version of your files in a separate folder and use the same technique.
I usually just fly online so I'm not sure about the campaigns, and DF works just fine. Try it both ways! Its just a quick way to switch versions by using batch files.

    Cheers,
    Hawky
