Game does not start | Forums

I just bought and downloaded the game from Steam.
When I tried to start it - first time a installation of Microsoft .Net framework came up.. but it ended because it was "not compatible with installed version.." When continuing a message saying that the software you are installing has not passed the Windows logo testing to confirm compatibility with Windows XP. The sofware will not be installed." And thats it - this comes up on any subsequent attempts to start the game. There is no indication as to what software that is problematic - could it be the SecuROM system?
I checked and I even have logo-testing set to "ignore and install anyway"..
I uninstalled .Net framework service pack 1 that was installed, but no change.
I have googled and found no relevant info.
Do you have any idea?

Windows XP SP3, Dell Dimension 8400 3.0ghz, 4mb memory, GeForce 6800GTS.
No problem with any other games - whether in Steam or not.
