    Rant on!

I've been changing my system over time and one thing I've noticed is that as graphics settings increase my ability to spot bogies just goes down. I mentioned this to the squaddies on HL lastnight and it seems others have noticed too.

I've seen previous posted pictures at differing resolutions showing how subtle but significant spotting dots becomes.

I've always tended to run the game at 1024 x 768 and set the game settings to my liking without crippling the frame rates. The new maps look fantastic but sadly dont help.

It would be great to see BoB use a better method of representing distanced planes but hey! what do I know.

    Rant off!

Mind you a simpler technique would be to ban camoflage!! :/

I run it at 1600 x 1200, knowing full well that I won't see the pesky dots.

But I know equally well that those dots are flown by others at lower resolution, so they'll see me and then the fun starts!

It's a shame, but then at it's inception hardware like ours was but a pipe dream, and the dots were right for what the vast majority were using.

BoB will be better, but in five years time the same complaint will likely resurface, when technology has again overtaken the game engine.

True enough.. bring back the pacific dots from a previous patch.. thats what I say.

The only thing I have changed in the last 10 months has been AA and AF and water settings.

Mind you I spend most of my time looking through a bombsight from way up high and not caring who sees me.. damn I'm normally 6x bigger then them anyway!

Maybe in 5 years we could have light reflection from cockpit glass from low bogies!??!?

Just get a really big monitor and run it at standard resolutions. I got a Dell 2707 and run it normally at 1600x1050 (though its native res is 1920x1200) and it looks stunning without a problem sighting those pesky little dots.

    the BETTER you video card
    the BETTER your Anisotropic filtering

    the BETTER your Anisotropic filtering
the BETTER objects at a distance become transparent

the BETTER objects at a distance become transparent
the HARDER it is to see said objects.

if you want to see things at a distance the same as up close disable Anisotropic filtering

Well I can now factor in that my overall success is dependant and proportionate to the AF settings which still means I suck!

    I can live with that.

I'm a CRT guy and my refresh becomes weak above 1024x768 so I stick with higher resolutions on offline games only.

Thanks for your input guys.. you are all great
