Thread: Thanks for the cool T-Shirt | Forums

    Hello Everybody,
yesterday I visited the Leipzig Games Convention. I live in Berlin, so it was only a one-and-a-half hour trip.
At the Ubi Booth, they had presentations on FC2 every two hours, though you had to get in half an hour earlier to get a place.
They showcased the 1 mile² level, you can read all the interviews about.
For example, they once shot a guy idling in a base in the leg, so he couldn't move, and used him as a "Full Metal Jacket"-style bait for others. That was really cruel...
Afterwards they threw a few T-shirts into the crowd, but with my 1,68 m height, I had no chance to grab one.
Then we could ask LP all kinds of questions, about the development process, the final product, the state of development, ect.
He answered them all the best he could, with no "You'll know that, when we release it"s or "We can't talk about that"s.
The artists actually made a trip to Africa for inspiration and references. They taped hours of ambient sound for the game.
LP also told be that they have a competitive, but friendly relationship to the Crytek team.

What's best is, that in the end, LP gave me his very own Far Cry 2 T-Shirt (he wore another T-Shirt underneath it).
It was a little sweaty, so I had to decide either to wash, or build a shrine around it...
    I did the former...
It's L, so it'll be quite loose fit on me, but it's cool as hell anyways.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Samuel

Anymations are smoother, the polygon count is way up and the textures are sharper but there didn't seem to be many new effects in the directx 9 Version I have seen, which kind of figures, considering the newest FC version is already a fully implemented dx9 engine.

The view distance was vast in the demo, bigger than anything you could possibly have on a small island like in FC.

good to hear from you Rikki.

I seem to recall reading about destructible environments in that demo. Apart from the trees breaking, which we've heard so much about, how did buildings and other manmade structures break apart? Did it look like predefined break points or did it seem pretty specific to where they were hit?

    Thanks.

You say why no questions but you don't even show us a pic of the shirt. Come on dude, what's up with that?

OK one question, did LP verify that the rumor of no predators is true, or did you ask?

@sixgun: I can't remember them saying anything about predators.
They did show us a herd of herbivores, though. They ran, when they flew over them in a hang glider. (Yes, there's gonna be a hang glider again)
The game didn't look like it was in the phase where final decisions about that stuff is made.
And I don't have a camera I could take a photo with. The T-Shirt reads "FARCRY 2" infont, and "Dawa ya moto ni moto" as well as "Ubisoft" on the back.

@bongomast3r: the buildings they ran into with a Jeep during the demo where shacks like the ones from the Crysis videos. They where smashed realistically and slowed the Jeep down believably, but we didn't get to see the destruction of any brick and mortar buildings. I assume they're gonna have to use some kind of breakpoint system there.
I can't say much about the trees. They only shot at one with a machine gun from quite a distance. The branches flew off, but from what I've seen it might as well have been random. I hope others have seen more than that.

LP said that they are definitely publicly releasing one, and that the extendability and contribution culture was one of the things that make FarCry so great.

So true that custom content is part of what makes Far Cry great. It will be interesting though now that FC2 is being released shortly after Crysis how many talented FC mappers will offer content for it rather than jumping ship to Crysis.
