Thread: Please, no dual primaries. | Forums

One of the things I miss most about the old Rainbow Six games was that they didn't pamper gamers with allowing you to carry multiple weapons into a mission. You had to strategically select your weapon after considering what the mission requires and what you plan to do during the mission. This added a layer of tactical depth because not equipping yourself properly meant a much higher probability of death and mission failure. Raven Shield did this the best. If you needed a bit more firepower than a standard pistol provided you could equip instead a small machine pistol. They're not much larger than a standard pistol and the magazines are small and light like a standard pistol mag. It makes SENSE.

This makes much more sense from a realism standpoint as well. Think about it, in Vegas and Vegas 2 you could carry around a M249, a PSG-1, and a Desert Eagle. Aside from how large, heavy, and clunky those weapons are (yet suffering no ill effects) you also have to consider the ammunition for those weapons. Ammo belts are freaking heavy (even 5.56), you also have the sniper rifle ammo, and somehow the magical ever replenishing infinite pistol ammo.

It's pampering the player. Make the player decide whether they want to carry a specialized weapon like a sniper rifle or take the safer all around weapons like assault rifles. Allowing them to have both removes the basic thought process of gearing up specifically for the mission.

...bah, who am I kidding. We'll get dual primaries again.

I say give us an option to carry two primaries, but with a penalty to ammo capacity: If you bring along a sniper rifle, an assault rifle/SMG, a backup weapon, and grenades, you're not going to be able to carry much ammo. On the other end you could just bring an assault rifle and leave all other weapons behind to make room for more ammo.

If you've played Deus Ex: Human Revolution, you probably have a good idea what I'm thinking.

I just want one primary and one side arm excluding other stuff (like grenades and flashbangs).

How about Ubi making players pie around corners. Keep the cover from Vegas but have it as a restricted head tilt ( holding left trig and making R1 move your head for a peek) then the player can let Lft trig go and proceed with caution. You have to have flashbangs in a Tact shooter.

I agree...do NOT allow two primary weapons to be carried in Multiplayer. For multiplayer, it should be only Primary Weapon + Sidearm Pistol (just like it currently is on RB6V2).

I agree, i hated having 2 primary weapons on Vegas 2. 9 times out of 10 i switched the second primary for the shield. the issue then was the inability to switch to the pistol in a emergency

I think I see what you are getting at, and I agree. Although i feel that dual primaries serve the purpose of exploring the weapons in the game, I feel that this should be limited to easy mode.

You also mentioned a machine pistol, since I never played Raven Shield I don't exactly know what you mean by this. Do you mean something like the MP9 or Glock 18?
