Thread: Help with coop mission please | Forums

  1. #1
I am trying to make a coop mission where Soviet Planes are attacking a German airfield just as the the Germans are taking off, with maybe 1 or 2 German planes already in the air. I am using the original IL2. When I set takeoff time to be delayed a few minutes, the German planes never show up on line. My guess is that on line everything has to spawn at the same time since it takes place in real time. Is this true? How could I change the timing of when planes take off? The only thing I thought of was to have non combat aircraft take off 1st and fly out of the mission so the combat planes would be delayed. Any other ideas?

    Many thanks for the help.

I just saw a post where someone said that any object in front of a plane prevents it from taking off (anywhere within 100m of the frontal arc of the plane). Just put a vehicle in front of the aircraft using timeout until you want them to fly. Then have the vehicle drive off the runway and go behind the planes.

BTW, you should not have a problem spawning AI aircraft in a coop mission. My squad did it this weekend on several missions.

If you set the first waypoint for aircraft to be after the start time of the mission, they won't actually spawn until the time that the first waypoint is set to.

For example, if the mission start is 12:00 and you set a flight of Bf-109's take-off waypoint to 12:02, they won't just sit on the runway till then and then take off, they won't actually spawn till 12:02, then go through the regular take-off procedure. This happens with planes already in the air too, they'll spawn at the given time of their first waypoint already flying.

At least that's what I've found in my experience.

    Ok, thanks.

What actually happened in the online coop was that the enemy planes never showed up for me. My buddy on the other end (also flying for USSR) said he saw enemy planes. I assumed it had something to do with them spawning later, but I think I am wrong. Can AI planes spawn later in on-line co-ops? I am also playing the original IL2 if that makes a difference. We are using the Ubi site to play. I was also wondering if there was any restriction on the aircraft you could use in on-line missions. I am using FW 190...not sure which model.

Any reason why the enemy aircraft don't show up for me? This is my second co-op. My first one worked great with similar aircraft (but no late spawing. BTW, the mission works great in Single player.

Just a side note, I am still really impressed with the original IL2. I still play it b/c my co-op buddy has an old system. I play Aces, LOMAC, Falcon, Strike Fighters and am still blown away by the original IL2. It's a few years old, still looks amazing and is still untouchable (by non-IL2 prop sims). All the IL2 stuff is just so complete and immersive...

    Anyway, thanks for the help.

In the original game IL2 Sturmovik planes set to spawn after mission start will only be seen by the host. Use the delaying tactics suggested by Zeus-cat or start the Russians in the air near the German base to get around it. Only in IL2:Forgotten Battles can you have AI aircraft spawning succesfully after mission start in Coops.

You're probably referring to my thread Making AI Aircraft Stationary -- A Guide. To prevent AI aircraft from taking off it takes another AI aircraft, not 'any' object. Also what I wrote about the possibility to delay aircraft take-offs is true only for FB 1.1 and later, but not for IL-2 Classic or FB 1.0, as in the earlier versions AI aircraft don't disappear once they're out of fuel. They will stay there and prevent the take-off forever.

Are there any numbers on how long it takes an idling plane to run out of fuel?

At least as long as it takes a flying plane. On actual time, I've seen people claiming that fuel consumption is the same at idle on the ramp as it would be in flight at the same mixture setting, but I've seen no claims of actually doing exhaustive tests on it.

Thanks, now I know. At least I didn't waste an evening running over Kubelwagens. I ended up accomplishing the same thing by having 8 big slow planes take off first (ME-323), but I may get rid of them and start the mission in the air. I will see how my friends old system handles the additional aircraft.

Thanks again for the great help.
