Chessmaster Challenge was released way before 2009. It was released (about a year) AFTER 10th Edition but way BEFORE Grandmaster Edition.

Chessmaster Challenge is just a stripped down Chessmaster 10th Edition. A very stripped down version - it is stripped to the bone actually.

So there sholdn't be any doubts - purchase Grandmaster Edition or at least Chessmaster 10th Edition. Chessmaster Challenge is a waste of money for what you get.

Sounds good .. as I am very much interested in the tutorial materials, I will definitely get the Grandmaster Edition .. but since I am unable to find it anywhere as digital download/purchase I guess I'll have to be patient and order the CD/DVD :-/

And not to beat a dead horse, but Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition is equivalent to Chessmaster 11 for PCs (not​ Chessmaster 10 for PCs) - correct?

Technically speaking, there's no such thing as Chessmaster 11... the latest version is Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition. However, many mistakenly refer to it as Chessmaster 11 because it is the successor of Chessmaster 10th Edition. Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition is the most recent version for PC.

And before anyone asks, it does run on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
