Thread: '50s TV Show Called "The Silent Service" | Forums

  1. #1
Awhile back I came across a website that had a TV show from the late '50s called "The Silent Service" for sale on dvd. This show was about the US Submarines in the Pacific. I remember watching this series late at night with my dad when I was a kid (seems like a long time ago). Would anyone know where I might be able to buy this series. I remember it being available on dvd but cannot remember where , nor can searching the web bring up any clues.

According to 'IMDb' it is not released on DVD.

    On their message board here:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050061/
they have a poll going to get it released.

I have seen the message on IMDB about The Silent Service. Still swear that I saw it on DVD somewhere for sale, just can't remember where (its hell getting old).

    Cool Tater....that is a coincidence ......
I noticed in the review on IMDb that Nimoy played the sonarman for three episodes. Now we know where he got those ears from!

A couple of familiar names also starred in the series. Lenard Nimoy and DeForest Kelly starred in the series, just found that out just recently.

I just came across the following website. I'm going to contact the webmaster and see if they are still available.

    Thanks guys

    I'm into my early fifties
...an I remember it on TV in the early 60's here in AUS. I seem to remember it was called "CRASH DIVE" though and went for 30 mins including adds. It stated with a Gato or Balao type diving as the credits came up on the screen. Can't remember any thing else about the show.

It must surely be the same show!

The show is based on the movie starring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis

bit of trivia: father Tony Curtis plays the XO in the movie, and daughter Jamie Lee Curtis plays one of the nurses in the series.
